RSI Trend Detector PSAR Based
Sep 18, 2023

The RSI Trend Detector PSAR Based indicator integrates the Relative Strength Index (RSI) with Parabolic SAR logic to provide a clear visualization of trend direction, momentum, and potential market reversals. By dynamically coloring the RSI line based on price relation to the PSAR, the tool simplifies the identification of bullish, bearish, and sideways market regimes.
Usage
The tool is primarily used to identify trend alignment and potential entry points through its color-coded RSI and signal crossovers.
- Trend Identification: When the RSI line is colored green, the price is trading above the PSAR, suggesting an uptrend. When the RSI is red, the price is below the PSAR, suggesting a downtrend.
- Sideways Markets: A grey background zone is plotted between the 40 and 60 RSI levels. Price action within this range typically indicates a lack of strong momentum or a consolidating market.
- Pullbacks: Users can identify pullbacks within a broader trend by observing discrepancies between the RSI position and its color. For example, if the RSI is above 50 but turns red, it signifies a bearish pullback within an overall bullish structure.
- Signal Crosses: The script includes an RSI Moving Average (Yellow/Blue line). A crossover of the RSI above its MA provides a bullish signal, while a crossunder provides a bearish signal.
Details
This script combines a standard RSI calculation with the Parabolic SAR (PSAR) formula to filter noise. While standard RSI can often oscillate without clear directional bias, the inclusion of PSAR logic provides an "instant" directional filter that changes the visual output of the RSI line immediately upon a trend flip.
The implementation uses a 14-period RSI by default, paired with a simple moving average of the RSI to act as a signal line. The background fill between the RSI and its moving average serves as a visual representation of momentum strength.
Settings
- RSI Length: Adjusts the lookback period for the RSI calculation (Default: 14).
- Source: Determines the price data used for the RSI calculation (Default: Close).
FAQ
How do I use the RSI Trend Detector PSAR Based for entries?
Entries are typically sought when the RSI line color aligns with the position relative to the 50-level. For instance, an entry in an uptrend is signaled when the RSI is above 50 and turns green.
What do the different colors on the RSI represent?
The color is determined by the PSAR: Green indicates the price is above the PSAR (Bullish), and Red indicates the price is below the PSAR (Bearish).
