HIGH and LOW Optimized Trend Tracker HOTT LOTT
Mar 6, 2022

The HIGH and LOW Optimized Trend Tracker (HOTT LOTT) indicator identifies trend direction and sideways market phases by utilizing two optimized tracking lines derived from highest and lowest price values. By establishing a clear "Flat Zone" between these lines, the tool helps traders filter out market noise and focus on high-probability trend continuations.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify trend transitions and neutral zones. The indicator provides visual cues on both the chart lines and the candle colors to simplify interpretation.
- Uptrend Signal: When the price closes above the HOTT (High Optimized Trend Tracker) line, the bars are highlighted in turquoise (or green). This indicates a potential bullish momentum phase.
- Downtrend Signal: When the price closes below the LOTT (Low Optimized Trend Tracker) line, the bars are highlighted in fuchsia (or red). This indicates a potential bearish momentum phase.
- Flat Zone: The area between the HOTT and LOTT lines represents a neutral or sideways market. Traders are generally advised to avoid opening new positions within this zone as there is no clear trend direction.
- Sensitivity Tuning: Users can adjust the OTT Period and Optimization Coefficient to match different timeframes. Lower values make the lines more reactive to price changes, while higher values smooth out the lines for long-term trend following.
Details
The HOTT LOTT is an evolution of the Optimized Trend Tracker (OTT) developed by Anıl Özekşi. Unlike the original OTT which typically uses a single line based on close prices, this version calculates two separate paths: HOTT is calculated using the highest price values, and LOTT is calculated using the lowest price values over a specific lookback period.
A key structural difference in this version is the removal of the standard Moving Average support line, focusing instead on the interaction between price and the two trend tracker lines. The script allows for high customization of the underlying smoothing engine, offering 10 different moving average types, including advanced filters like VAR (VIDYA), ZLEMA (Zero Lag Exponential Moving Average), and Hull Moving Average.
Settings
- OTT Period: The length used for the internal moving average calculations. Smaller values increase sensitivity, while larger values prioritize broader trends.
- OTT Optimization Coeff: A percentage-based coefficient that determines the distance and reactivity of the tracker lines relative to the price.
- Highest and Lowest Length: Defines the lookback window for determining the highest and lowest price sources used in the HOTT and LOTT calculations.
- Highlighter On/Off: Toggles the background shading between the HOTT and LOTT lines.
- Moving Average Type: Selects the mathematical method for smoothing the price data. Options include SMA, EMA, WMA, DEMA, TMA, VAR (VIDYA), WWMA, ZLEMA, TSF, and HULL.
FAQ
What is the "Flat Zone" in this indicator? The Flat Zone is the shaded area between the HOTT and LOTT lines, indicating a lack of a clear trend where price action is sideways or range-bound.
Which moving average type is recommended? The default is set to VAR (Variable Index Dynamic Moving Average), which is often preferred for its ability to adjust sensitivity based on market volatility, though users should test different types based on their specific asset and timeframe.
How do I access the HIGH and LOW Optimized Trend Tracker? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
