The RSI-Fib indicator combines the Relative Strength Index (RSI) with dynamic Fibonacci retracement levels and extreme signal markers to help traders identify overextended market conditions and potential reversal points.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying overbought and oversold conditions through a combination of traditional RSI thresholds and price-action-derived Fibonacci levels.

  • Extreme Signals: The indicator plots triangle shapes when the RSI reaches extreme levels. A green triangle appears when the RSI is at or below the "OverSold" threshold, while a red triangle appears when it is at or above the "OverBought" threshold.
  • Fibonacci Zones: The script calculates the 0.618 and 0.382 Fibonacci levels based on the highest and lowest RSI values within a lookback period. These levels act as dynamic support and resistance zones within the oscillator.
  • Multi-Timeframe Context: By default, the script includes a reference to the 5-minute RSI, allowing for a broader perspective on momentum trends regardless of the current chart timeframe.

Details

The RSI-Fib indicator utilizes a standard RSI calculation but enhances it with lookback-based price range analysis. By calculating the highest and lowest RSI values over a specific "SWperiod," it defines a range where the 61.8% and 38.2% Fibonacci levels are projected. This allows the tool to adapt its internal levels based on recent volatility rather than relying solely on static 70/30 or 80/20 thresholds. The implementation also features optimized alerts that trigger when the RSI crosses back into the main trading range from extreme levels.

Settings

  • SWperiod: Determines the lookback period used to find the highest and lowest RSI values for Fibonacci calculations.
  • Shift: Offsets the lookback range for the Fibonacci calculations.
  • OverBought: Sets the upper threshold (default 80) for extreme overbought signals.
  • OverSold: Sets the lower threshold (default 20) for extreme oversold signals.
  • RSI Length: Defines the number of bars used to calculate the core Relative Strength Index.

FAQ

How do I interpret the Fibonacci levels within the RSI?

The 0.618 and 0.382 levels serve as dynamic boundaries. When RSI is trending between these levels, the market is in a consolidated state; breaking outside these levels can indicate strengthening momentum toward extreme zones.

What do the triangle shapes represent?

The triangles highlight "Extreme" conditions. A red triangle at the top indicates the RSI has reached the user-defined OverBought level, while a green triangle at the bottom indicates the OverSold level has been met.
