The Support Resistance Strategy indicator is a technical tool designed to identify and trade breakout opportunities based on dynamic support and resistance levels derived from price extremes and moving average crosses. It helps traders visualize trend shifts and potential entry points by tracking historical highs and lows relative to price action.

Usage

The Support Resistance Strategy can be used to identify trend reversals and breakout moments. When the price crosses above the identified resistance level, it signals a potential bullish breakout, often used for long entries. Conversely, when the price drops below the support level, it indicates a bearish breakdown, suitable for short entries.

The indicator provides visual cues to assist in interpretation:

  • Green Background/Bar Colors: Indicates the price has broken above resistance, signaling a bullish phase.
  • Red Background/Bar Colors: Indicates the price has dropped below support, signaling a bearish phase.
  • Blue Background/Bar Colors: Represents a neutral or transitional zone where the price is between the established support and resistance levels.

Details

The strategy identifies key levels using a combination of a Simple Moving Average (SMA) and price extremes (highest high and lowest low) over a user-defined lookback period.

  • Resistance: This level is set to the highest high of the lookback period when the SMA crosses above the closing price.
  • Support: This level is set to the lowest low of the lookback period when the closing price crosses above the SMA.

The strategy logic executes a long trade when the closing price crosses over the resistance line and a short trade when the price crosses under the support line.

Settings

  • Length: Determines the lookback period used for calculating the SMA and the highest highs/lowest lows. A higher value results in more significant but slower-reacting levels.
  • Barcolor: Enables or disables the coloring of price bars based on the current trend state.
  • Bgcolor: Enables or disables the background highlighting to visually distinguish between bullish, bearish, and neutral zones.

FAQ

How do I use the Support Resistance Strategy signals?

Signals are generated when the price breaks out of the established support or resistance lines. A crossover of resistance is a buy signal, while a crossunder of support is a sell signal.

What is the purpose of the Length setting?

The Length setting defines the sensitivity of the indicator. Smaller lengths make the strategy more reactive to recent price changes, while larger lengths focus on more established historical levels.
