The Visible Range Volume Profile Heatmap indicator provides a dynamic visualization of trading volume within the visible price range, utilizing a heatmap to highlight areas of high and low liquidity. This tool assists traders in identifying significant support and resistance zones by mapping volume distribution directly onto the price action through color-coded intensity.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market dynamics. The heatmap represents volume concentration through a color gradient; darker or more intense colors indicate higher volume at specific price levels, suggesting areas where market participants have established significant positions.

  • Identifying Support and Resistance: High-volume nodes (darker heatmap cells) often act as structural support or resistance. Price tends to stall or react when entering these zones.
  • Point of Control (POC): The indicator highlights the POC, which is the price level with the highest traded volume in the visible range. This level often acts as a price magnet, serving as a target for mean reversion or a pivot for trend continuations.
  • Trend Confirmation: Traders can use the heatmap to confirm breakouts. If the price moves beyond a significant volume cluster, it may signal a shift in market sentiment. Conversely, movements away from high-volume nodes toward low-volume areas may indicate fast price action due to lack of historical liquidity.

Details

The script calculates volume distribution based on the bars currently visible on the user's chart. Unlike traditional fixed-range profiles, this tool updates dynamically as the user scrolls or zooms. It divides the visible range into a grid (rows for price, columns for time) and aggregates volume data for each cell.

The indicator offers two scaling methods:

  1. Auto Scale: Dynamically calculates grid dimensions based on the chart's aspect ratio and a target number of cells.
  2. Manual: Allows the user to define specific bar widths per column and a fixed number of rows for vertical resolution.

The "Lookback" feature determines the window size for each heatmap column, allowing for overlapping volume calculations that smooth the transition between different time segments on the chart.

Settings

Settings

  • Lookback: Sets the number of columns to look back for calculating the volume profile. Higher values provide a broader historical context, while lower values reflect recent activity.
  • Grid Configuration: Switches between "Auto Scale" (automatic layout) and "Manual" (user-defined layout).
  • Auto Scale Grid Size: Sets the total number of cells in the heatmap when using Auto Scale.
  • Auto Scale Grid Ratio: Adjusts the aspect ratio of cells to make them more rectangular or square.
  • Column Width: In manual mode, defines how many price bars are contained in each horizontal column.
  • Number of Rows: In manual mode, defines the vertical price resolution.

Visual

  • Color Palate: Choose between "Tri Tone" (Bullish/Neutral/Bearish) or "Two Tone" (Bullish/Bearish) gradients.
  • Colors: Customizable color inputs for bullish, neutral, and bearish volume components.
  • Transparency: Controls the opacity of the heatmap cells.
  • Show Grid Borders: Toggles the visibility of outlines around each heatmap cell.
  • POC Toggle and Color: Enables the Point of Control line and allows for custom color selection.

FAQ

How do I interpret the heatmap colors? The color intensity is scaled based on the volume traded at that level relative to the rest of the visible range. Darker or more vibrant colors represent higher volume (High Volume Nodes), while lighter or more transparent areas represent lower volume (Low Volume Nodes).

Why does the heatmap change when I zoom out? Because the script is a "Visible Range" tool, it recalculates based on the bars currently shown on your screen. Zooming out includes more historical data in the calculation, which shifts the volume distribution and the Point of Control.
