The 5 Minute Scalping Strategy indicator is a trend-following system designed to identify high-probability entry points by combining multi-timeframe MACD momentum with Exponential Moving Average (EMA) alignment and Relative Strength Index (RSI) filtering.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying trade setups when trend, momentum, and volatility conditions align.

  • Long Entries: Occur when the 9, 50, and 200 EMAs are in ascending order (9 > 50 > 200), the RSI (Length 11) is above 51, and the 1-minute MACD histogram experiences a significant "downtick" that drops below the Lower Bollinger Band and stays beneath the -10 threshold.
  • Short Entries: Occur when the 9, 50, and 200 EMAs are in descending order (9 < 50 < 200), the RSI (Length 29) is below 49, and the 1-minute MACD histogram experiences a significant "uptick" that rises above the Upper Bollinger Band and exceeds the 35 threshold.

Details

This strategy utilizes a multi-timeframe approach by requesting MACD histogram data from the 1-minute timeframe to pinpoint entries while analyzing the trend on the chart's current timeframe (ideally 5 minutes). The "bigger than usual" momentum moves are filtered using Bollinger Bands applied directly to the MACD histogram. This ensures that the strategy only enters trades when momentum is temporarily overextended against the primary trend, seeking to capture the subsequent continuation.

Settings

MACD

  • Fast/Slow Length: Sets the periods for the MACD oscillator calculation.
  • Signal Smoothing: Determines the signal line period.
  • Oscillator/Signal MA Type: Allows switching between SMA and EMA for the MACD components.
  • MacdTick Low/High: Fixed thresholds (-10 and 35) that the MACD histogram must breach to validate a signal.

Moving Averages

  • EMA 1/2/3 Length: Sets the periods for the three trend-filtering EMAs (Default: 9, 50, 200).

Bollinger Bands

  • LengthBB Long/Short: The lookback period for the Bollinger Bands applied to the MACD histogram.
  • StdDev: The multiplier for the standard deviation bands.

RSI

  • RSI Length Long/Short: The lookback periods for the RSI filters used in long and short conditions.

Risk Management

  • Take Profit %: The percentage gain from the entry price to trigger a limit order.
  • Stop Loss %: The percentage loss from the entry price to trigger a stop-market order.
