Price Action Strategy
Oct 25, 2024

The Price Action Strategy indicator is a comprehensive trading tool designed to capture potential market reversals by identifying classic candlestick patterns near dynamic support and resistance levels. By combining price action formations with key psychological barriers, the tool aims to provide high-probability entry points for mean-reversion strategies.
Usage
The strategy functions by monitoring price interactions with dynamic horizontal levels and confirming reversals through specific candlestick patterns. It can be used across various timeframes and asset classes to identify exhaustion in trends or the beginning of new counter-trend movements.
Entry Conditions
- Long Entry: Triggered when a Hammer, Doji, or Pin Bar pattern forms while the closing price is within the specified sensitivity range of the dynamic support level.
- Short Entry: Triggered when a Shooting Star, Doji, or Pin Bar pattern forms while the closing price is within the specified sensitivity range of the dynamic resistance level.
Exit Conditions
The strategy employs a fixed percentage-based risk management system. By default, it looks to take profit at 9.5% and close the position if the price moves 16% against the entry. These parameters are fully adjustable to suit different volatility profiles.
Details
The core logic revolves around two primary components:
- Dynamic Levels: Support is calculated using the lowest low over a user-defined lookback period, while resistance uses the highest high. These levels represent zones where buying or selling pressure has historically intensified.
- Price Action Confirmation: The strategy requires a specific candlestick pattern to confirm the level's validity. This reduces the risk of entering a trade simply because price touched a level, ensuring that there is a visible rejection of that price zone.
The tool is designed to be non-repainting, meaning signals are confirmed upon the close of the candle and will not change retroactively.
Settings
Core Settings
- Support and Resistance Length: Determines the number of bars used to calculate the highest highs and lowest lows for the dynamic levels.
- Sensitivity: Adjusts the range around support and resistance levels within which a candlestick pattern is considered valid. A value of 0.018 represents a 1.8% range.
Risk Management
- Stop Loss percentage: Sets the percentage distance from the entry price to trigger a stop loss exit.
- Take Profit percentage: Sets the percentage distance from the entry price to trigger a take profit exit.
FAQ
How do I access the Price Action Strategy?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
What candlestick patterns are included?
The strategy recognizes Hammers, Shooting Stars, Dojis, and Pin Bars. Each pattern is labeled on the chart when it triggers an entry.
Can I change the sensitivity of the signals?
Yes, the "Sensitivity" input allows you to expand or contract the "zone" around support and resistance. A higher sensitivity value allows for more signals by widening the acceptable range, while a lower value requires the pattern to occur closer to the exact level.
