The VWAP Pivots indicator provides a unique twist on traditional support and resistance levels by calculating Classic, Camarilla, and Woodie pivot points using Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) values instead of standard OHLC data. This approach integrates volume-weighted price action into the calculation of key levels, offering traders a more volume-centric perspective on intraday and long-term market structure.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify potential reversal points or trend continuation levels based on volume-weighted averages. By applying different pivot calculation methods, traders can tailor the sensitivity of the support and resistance lines to their specific strategy.

  • Classic Pivots: Best for standard support and resistance identification based on the average of high, low, and close.
  • Camarilla Pivots: Focuses on levels where price is most likely to reverse, often used by mean-reversion traders.
  • Woodie Pivots: Weights the "open" (starting VWAP) more heavily, providing levels that react differently to early-session price action.
  • Interval Selection: Users can set the pivot interval to Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly, allowing for both intraday scalp targets and long-term institutional levels.

Details

Unlike standard pivot points that look at the highest or lowest price reached, this tool looks at the highest and lowest VWAP values recorded during the specified interval.

  • Calculation Logic: The script tracks the hlc3 (High + Low + Close / 3) multiplied by volume to determine the rolling VWAP. At the start of every new interval, it captures the previous interval's VWAP high, low, and final close to project the current interval's pivot levels.
  • Visual Extensions: The indicator includes options to extend the current levels to the right of the chart, ensuring that the most relevant targets are always visible regardless of current price proximity.

Settings

  • Pivot Interval: Sets the timeframe for pivot calculations (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly).
  • Pivot Type: Chooses between Classic, Camarilla, or Woodie calculation formulas.
  • Display Settings: Toggles for VWAP, Pivots (R1-R4, S1-S4), and VWAP High/Low/Close/Open lines and labels.
  • Extend Lines: Options to extend specific levels (VWAP, Pivots, Open/High/Low) horizontally across the chart.
  • Label Customization: Controls for label size and offset adjustment to improve chart clarity.

FAQ

How do I access VWAP Pivots?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Why use VWAP for pivots instead of standard prices?

Standard pivots use extreme price spikes which might have very low volume. Using VWAP ensures the levels are derived from areas where the most significant trading activity actually occurred.

Can I use this for long-term investing?

Yes, by setting the Pivot Interval to "Yearly" or "Monthly," you can identify major volume-weighted support and resistance zones used by institutional participants.
