NQ Order Blocks (Smart Money)
Jan 5, 2026

The NQ Order Blocks (Smart Money) indicator identifies and visualizes institutional supply and demand zones by detecting impulsive price movements following specific candle patterns.
Usage
The NQ Order Blocks (Smart Money) tool is designed to highlight areas of high liquidity where "Smart Money" has entered the market. Traders typically use these zones to identify potential reversal points or areas for trend continuation.
- Bullish Order Blocks: Represented by green zones, these are identified when a down candle is immediately followed by a strong impulsive move upward.
- Bearish Order Blocks: Represented by red zones, these are identified when an up candle is immediately followed by a strong impulsive move downward.
While optimized for NQ (Nasdaq) on lower timeframes (1m to 15m), the tool can be applied to any asset to identify institutional footprints. Users often look for High Time Frame (HTF) confirmation by aligning lower timeframe order blocks with zones identified on higher timeframes.
Details
The script functions by analyzing the relationship between price action and volatility. It defines an "impulsive move" based on the Average True Range (ATR). When a candle's body size exceeds a specified multiple of the ATR, it is flagged as an impulse. The script then looks back at the preceding candle—the "order block"—and plots a rectangle (zone) based on its high and low range. This helps traders visualize the specific price level where the institutional move originated.
Settings
- Impulse Size (ATR Multiplier): Determines the sensitivity of the impulsive move detection. A higher value requires a larger price move to trigger an order block.
- ATR Length: Sets the lookback period for the Average True Range calculation used to measure volatility.
- Show Bullish Order Blocks: Toggles the visibility of bullish (demand) zones.
- Show Bearish Order Blocks: Toggles the visibility of bearish (supply) zones.
FAQ
How do I use these zones for entries? Traders often look for price to return to these identified boxes to find "retest" entries, assuming that institutional orders may still be resting at those price levels.
Does this indicator repaint? No, the boxes are drawn once the impulsive candle closes and confirms the preceding candle as an order block.
