The CM_Ultimate_MA_MTF_V2 indicator provides a versatile multi-timeframe moving average toolkit designed to streamline trend analysis and price action tracking across different chart resolutions.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, with focus on its multi-timeframe and dual-average capabilities. Traders can utilize this tool to plot high-timeframe trends (such as a Daily MA) onto lower-timeframe charts (like 60-minute or 5-minute intervals) for better context.

  • Trend Identification: Use the primary moving average to determine the immediate trend. The indicator can change colors based on direction, making it easy to identify bullish or bearish momentum.
  • Dual MA Strategy: By enabling the "Optional 2nd Moving Average," users can create crossover systems. For example, plotting a 20-period EMA and a 50-period SMA simultaneously allows for "Golden Cross" or "Death Cross" analysis.
  • Price Interaction: The script can highlight price bars when the market crosses the selected moving average, serving as a visual signal for breakout or mean-reversion entries.
  • Cross Signals: When both moving averages are active, the "Show Dots" feature visually marks the exact point where the two lines intersect.

Details

The script implements eight distinct moving average types: SMA, EMA, WMA, HullMA, VWMA, RMA, TEMA, and Tilson T3. This diversity allows for various levels of smoothing and lag reduction. The Tilson T3 calculation utilizes a customizable volume factor (T3 Factor) to balance smoothness and responsiveness.

The multi-timeframe (MTF) functionality is powered by security requests, allowing data from higher resolutions to be projected onto the current chart. A "Color Smoothing" setting is included to prevent frequent color flickering during periods of consolidation, requiring a specific number of bars to confirm a directional change.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Source: Determines the price data used for the calculation (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
  • Use Current Chart Resolution?: When checked, the MA matches the chart timeframe. When unchecked, the custom timeframe below is used.
  • Use Different Timeframe?: Specifies the timeframe for the MTF calculation (e.g., D for Daily, W for Weekly).
  • Moving Average Length: The lookback period for the primary moving average.
  • Tilson T3 Factor: Adjusts the damping factor for the T3 MA calculation.
  • MA Type Opts: Selects the specific algorithm (1-8) for the primary average.
  • Show Price Crossing 1st Mov Avg: Highlights bars in yellow when price crosses the MA.
  • Change Color Based On Direction?: Enables color shifts (Green/Red) based on the MA slope.
  • Color Smoothing: Sets the sensitivity for color changes; higher values require more persistent movement to change color.

2nd Moving Average Settings

  • Optional 2nd Moving Average: Toggles the visibility of a second, independent moving average.
  • Show Price Crossing 2nd Mov Avg?: Highlights bars when price crosses the second MA.
  • Moving Average Length - Optional 2nd MA: Lookback period for the second average.
  • MA Type Opts (2nd MA): Selects the algorithm for the second average.
  • Show Dots on Cross of Both MA's: Plots a visual marker when MA1 and MA2 intersect.

FAQ

How do I use this to see Daily trends on a 15-minute chart? Uncheck the "Use Current Chart Resolution?" box and set the "Use Different Timeframe?" input to "D". The indicator will then calculate the moving average based on Daily data while displaying it on your 15-minute candles.

What is the "Color Smoothing" setting? This setting prevents the moving average from changing color too rapidly. For example, a setting of 2 means the current value must be higher/lower than the value 2 bars ago to trigger a color change, filtering out minor price noise.
