Zero Lag MACD Enhanced - Version 1.1
Nov 20, 2016

The Zero Lag MACD Enhanced - Version 1.1 indicator provides a trend-following momentum oscillator designed to eliminate the inherent lag found in traditional MACD calculations, allowing for faster response to price changes.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying trend reversals and momentum shifts with reduced delay. Traders can use the crossover between the MACD line and the Signal line as entry or exit triggers.
- Bullish Signal: Occurs when the Zero Lag MACD line crosses above the Signal line, often highlighted by the green histogram and background fill.
- Bearish Signal: Occurs when the Zero Lag MACD line crosses below the Signal line, typically accompanied by a red histogram.
- Filtering: An additional EMA can be applied to the MACD line to filter out market noise and potential false signals. Users can toggle between the "Glaz" algorithm and the "Real" original zero-lag algorithm depending on their preference for sensitivity or compatibility with other platforms.
Details
This script is based on the ZeroLag EMA concept introduced in the April 2000 issue of Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities. It functions by calculating the difference between two ZeroLag Moving Averages (Fast and Slow). A ZeroLag MA is constructed by subtracting a secondary moving average from the double of the first, effectively neutralizing the lag. This version enhances the concept by offering a choice of smoothing methods (EMA vs. SMA) and incorporating a legacy calculation mode to ensure compliance with implementations found on platforms like MT4 or FXCM.
Settings
Main Settings
- Fast Length: Sets the period for the fast ZeroLag component.
- Slow Length: Sets the period for the slow ZeroLag component.
- Signal Length: Determines the smoothing period for the signal line.
- MACD EMA Length: Sets the period for the optional additional EMA applied to the MACD line.
- Use EMA (otherwise SMA): Toggles the internal calculation method between Exponential and Simple Moving Averages.
- Use Glaz algo: When enabled, uses the specific "Glaz" algorithm variant; when disabled, uses the standard original zero-lag calculation.
FAQ
How do I use the different algorithms?
You can toggle the "Use Glaz algo" setting in the inputs. The Glaz version uses a modified signal line, while the original version matches standard zero-lag implementations found on most legacy charting platforms.
What is the purpose of the EMA on MACD?
This is an additional smoothing layer that can be used as a secondary filter to confirm trends or reduce "whipsaw" signals in volatile markets.
