The Crypto momentum strategy tool identifies trend shifts in momentum by locating peaks and valleys to generate actionable buy and sell signals in cryptocurrency markets.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying long-only opportunities by combining momentum oscillators with trend filters. Users should look for buy signals when the momentum slope crosses above zero, provided the price is above the 50-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) and the EMA itself is trending upward. Sell signals are triggered when the momentum slope crosses below zero, signaling a potential trend reversal or exhaustion.

This strategy is optimized for higher timeframes, such as daily or weekly charts, where crypto trends tend to be more persistent.

Details

This strategy is built upon the Squeeze Momentum concept, utilizing Bollinger Bands and Keltner Channels to determine market volatility and "squeeze" conditions. It calculates a linear regression value of price relative to a historical average to plot momentum. To ensure trades are taken in the direction of the macro trend, the strategy incorporates a 50-period EMA filter. Additionally, it includes an optional market behavior filter that references the total crypto market capitalization (CRYPTOCAP:TOTAL) to confirm that the broader market sentiment supports the individual asset's trade.

Settings

Main Settings

  • BB Length: Sets the period for the Bollinger Bands calculation.
  • BB MultFactor: Adjusts the standard deviation multiplier for the Bollinger Bands.
  • KC Length: Sets the period for the Keltner Channels calculation.
  • KC MultFactor: Adjusts the multiplier for the Keltner Channels range.
  • EMA periods: Determines the period for the trend-filtering Exponential Moving Average (default is 50).
  • Use TrueRange (KC): When enabled, uses True Range instead of simple High-Low for Keltner Channel calculations.
  • Consider crypto market behavior: When enabled, the strategy only enters trades if the total crypto market cap is also in an uptrend.
