Pivot Regime Anchored VWAP
Oct 22, 2025

The Pivot Regime Anchored VWAP indicator detects body-based pivot regimes to classify market structure and anchors volume-weighted average price lines directly at confirmed higher highs and lower lows for adaptive reference levels. By resetting only at structural extremes, this tool provides dynamic support and resistance that evolves with volume flow while reducing noise found in standard VWAP calculations.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying trend shifts and key reference levels. Users can monitor the color-coded labels (HH, LH, LL, HL) to understand current market structure.
- Resistance Identification: Red lines anchored at Higher Highs (HH) indicate zones where sellers may defend prior peaks.
- Support Identification: Green (Lime) lines anchored at Lower Lows (LL) mark areas where buyers have historically committed capital.
- Trend Confirmation: Entering long positions when price holds above a rising Lower Low line, or short positions when price stays below a falling Higher High line.
- Breakout Signals: Crosses over or under these anchored lines can signal momentum shifts or trend exhaustions.
Details
Unlike traditional VWAP indicators that reset at fixed time intervals (daily, weekly, etc.), this script uses a body-based breakout logic to detect regime shifts. It calculates the maximum and minimum of candle bodies (open/close) rather than wicks to filter out volatility noise.
The architecture ensures that lines only reset when a new structural extreme (Higher High or Lower Low) is confirmed. When a shift occurs, the script recalculates the volume-weighted price from the specific anchor bar forward. Polyline rendering is used to manage performance, ensuring the chart remains clean even with complex historical calculations.
Settings
- Pivot Length: Controls the lookback window for detecting body breakouts. Shorter values (10-20) are more sensitive for intraday trading, while longer values (50+) provide stability for swing trading.
- Show Pivot Labels: Toggles the visual markers for Higher Highs, Lower Highs, Lower Lows, and Higher Lows.
- HH Color: Customizes the color for resistance lines and Higher High labels.
- LL Color: Customizes the color for support lines and Lower Low labels.
FAQ
How do I interpret labels without lines?
Lower High (LH) and Higher Low (HL) labels appear to signal structural shifts, but they do not anchor new VWAP lines. Only the most significant extremes (HH and LL) trigger a new anchor to ensure the reference levels represent major structural turns.
Can I use this on non-standard chart types?
It is recommended to avoid Heikin-Ashi, Renko, or Range charts, as these can distort price-volume calculations and lead to unrealistic results.
