The RSI -ZIGZAG indicator is a technical analysis tool that combines the Relative Strength Index (RSI) with a percentage-based ZigZag filter to identify trend reversals and price pivot points. By applying ZigZag logic to RSI crossovers, the script helps traders filter out minor price fluctuations and focus on significant momentum shifts.

Usage

The Usage of the RSI -ZIGZAG is centered around identifying potential market turning points. The indicator calculates a fast RSI and tracks crossovers of defined overbought and oversold levels.

  • Buy Signals: A green "Buy" label appears when the trend switches from bearish to bullish, triggered when the RSI recovers from oversold conditions and exceeds the minimum percentage change required by the ZigZag logic.
  • Sell Signals: A red "Sell" label appears when the trend switches from bullish to bearish, triggered when the RSI drops from overbought conditions and moves beyond the percentage threshold relative to the recent high.

Traders can adjust the sensitivity of these signals by modifying the RSI length or the minimum percentage change required for a ZigZag trend shift.

Details

The script executes a multi-step calculation process:

  1. RSI Calculation: It first calculates an RSI (typically with a short length) to capture rapid momentum changes.
  2. Levels Tracking: It monitors specific overbought (70) and oversold (35) thresholds.
  3. ZigZag Logic: Unlike standard price-based ZigZags, this logic uses the price levels associated with RSI crosses. It maintains a "high" or "low" reference point and only switches the trend when the price moves by a user-defined percentage (zzPercent) away from that reference. This ensures that signals are only generated during meaningful retracements.

Settings

  • RSI Length: Determines the period used to calculate the Relative Strength Index. Smaller values make the indicator more sensitive to immediate price action.
  • Minimum % Change: The percentage threshold required to trigger a ZigZag trend reversal. Higher values filter out more noise, while lower values produce more frequent signals.

FAQ

How do I use the signals from this indicator?

The signals are designed to highlight trend reversals. A "Buy" signal suggests a potential upward move following an oversold condition, while a "Sell" signal suggests a potential downward move following an overbought condition.

Can I adjust the signal frequency?

Yes, you can increase the "Minimum % Change" to reduce the number of signals or decrease the "RSI Length" to make the underlying momentum detection faster.
