The Opening Range Breakout Lines indicator provides an automated way to visualize session breakout levels based on a combination of opening prices and volatility-adjusted ranges. It aims to help traders identify potential entry points during specific trading sessions by automatically plotting buy and sell thresholds without the need for manual drawing.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify trend direction and breakout momentum within a defined time window.

  • Breakout Levels: The tool plots a central Session Open Price line along with upper (Buy) and lower (Sell) breakout lines.
  • Signal Interpretation: When the price crosses above the Buy Line during the active session, a "Buy" label and arrow are plotted. Conversely, a cross below the Sell Line triggers a "Sell" label and arrow.
  • Visualizing Multi-Day Data: The script maintains these levels across historical data, allowing users to back-test or review how price reacted to the opening range across multiple trading days.

Details

This script is inspired by the concepts found in the "Open Session Breakout Trader Strategy" by RicardoSantos. It calculates the breakout distance using the Daily Average True Range (ATR) of the last 100 days. This value is then multiplied by a user-defined percentage to create a dynamic buffer around the session's opening price. By using ATR, the breakout lines adapt to the historical volatility of the specific asset being traded, such as Silver (XAGUSD) or other major symbols.

Settings

  • Trade Session(xxxx-xxxx to define an interval): Sets the specific time range during which the indicator will calculate the open price and monitor for breakouts.
  • Percent Range Multiplier: Determines the distance of the buy and sell lines from the opening price as a percentage of the 100-day ATR. Increasing this value requires a larger price move to trigger a signal.
