The Extreme Entry with Mean Reversion and Trend Filter indicator provides traders with a multi-layered approach to identifying potential market reversals and trend-following entries by combining RSI conditions, momentum crossovers, and mean reversion bands. It helps isolate high-probability entry points by ensuring momentum aligns with overbought/oversold levels while offering flexible filtering based on price location relative to statistical bands.

Usage

This tool can be used to identify two primary types of trading opportunities:

  • Range Entries: These signals appear when price is within the mean reversion bands. They are designed to capture moves returning to the average during consolidated or standard market conditions.
  • Extreme Entries: These signals occur when the price is outside the upper or lower bands. This mode is particularly useful for identifying potential pullbacks or exhaustion points in strong trends, often leading to trades with high reward-to-risk ratios.

To further refine signals, users can enable the Trend Filter, which limits Long entries to periods when price is above a long-term EMA and Short entries to periods when price is below it. The script also supports regular divergence detection, ensuring that RSI conditions are backed by price-momentum discrepancies before a signal triggers.

Details

The script functions by monitoring three primary technical layers:

  1. Overbought/Oversold Logic: Uses RSI to detect stretched market conditions. Users can optionally require a regular bullish or bearish divergence to be present within these zones.
  2. Momentum Confirmation: Once an RSI condition is met, the script waits for a zero-crossover from either the Commodity Channel Index (CCI) or a Momentum oscillator.
  3. Volatility Bands: It calculates an EMA-based mean reversion line with standard deviation bands (similar to Bollinger Bands). This allows the tool to categorize signals based on how far the price has deviated from its average.

Settings

Core Logic

  • Entry Signal Source: Select between CCI or Momentum for the final trigger crossover.
  • CCI/Momentum Length: The lookback period for the trigger oscillator.
  • Find Regular Bullish/Bearish Divergence: If enabled, signals will only trigger if a divergence is detected during the overbought/oversold state.
  • RSI Settings: Customizable length and overbought/oversold thresholds.

Mean Reversion

  • Plot Mean Reversion on the chart: Toggles the visibility and logic of the bands.
  • Mean Reversion Signal Filter: Choose between "Range Entries," "Extreme Entries," or "All Entries."
  • MR Lookback Period (EMA): Sets the period for the central mean line.
  • MR Bands Multiplier: Adjusts the width of the bands using standard deviation.

Trend Filter

  • Enable Trend Filter: Activates the directional EMA filter.
  • EMA Period (Trend Filter): Sets the period for the trend-defining EMA.

Can I use this for scalping?

Yes, the indicator is versatile and can be applied to lower timeframes for scalping or higher timeframes for swing trading, provided the settings (like RSI levels and Band multipliers) are adjusted to fit the specific asset's volatility.

What is the difference between Range and Extreme entries?

Range entries look for mean reversion when price is within normal statistical boundaries, while Extreme entries target reversals that occur when price has deviated significantly from the mean (outside the bands).
