MACD Multi-Timeframe Indicator
Apr 1, 2021

The MACD Multi-Timeframe Indicator provides a visually enhanced Moving Average Convergence Divergence oscillator designed to help traders identify momentum shifts and potential trend reversals across various timeframes.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify trend direction and momentum strength through the interaction of the MACD line, signal line, and histogram.
- Trend Identification: The MACD line changes color based on its position relative to the signal line. It turns green when crossing above the signal line (bullish) and red when crossing below (bearish).
- Momentum Analysis: The histogram utilizes color gradients to display momentum strength. A dark green histogram indicates increasing bullish momentum, while light green suggests weakening bullish momentum. Conversely, dark red indicates increasing bearish momentum, and light red suggests weakening bearish momentum.
- Mean Reversion Signals: A common strategy involves looking for "long" signals when the MACD is below the zero line and crosses above the signal line. "Short" signals are sought when the MACD is above the zero line and crosses below the signal line.
Details
The script calculates the standard MACD using the difference between a fast and a slow Exponential Moving Average (EMA). A signal line (an EMA of the MACD line) is then plotted alongside. The histogram represents the difference between the MACD line and the signal line. This implementation includes built-in alert conditions for specific technical crossovers, facilitating automated monitoring.
Settings
MACD Parameters
- Fast Length: The period for the shorter-term EMA used in the MACD calculation (default is 12).
- Slow Length: The period for the longer-term EMA used in the MACD calculation (default is 26).
- Signal Smoothing: The period for the EMA of the MACD line, used to create the signal line (default is 9).
- Source: The price data point used for calculations (e.g., Close, Open, High, Low).
FAQ
How do I interpret the histogram colors?
Darker colors represent increasing momentum in the direction of the trend, while lighter shades indicate that the current momentum is slowing down or "fading."
What do the circles on the indicator represent?
The circles mark the exact points where the MACD line crosses the signal line, highlighting potential entry or exit points.
