The VWAP bands for any Security indicator plots multiple percentage-based deviation bands around the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) to help traders identify overbought and oversold market conditions across various financial instruments.

Usage

The script is primarily used to detect price extremes relative to the average volume-weighted price. Traders can use these bands to anticipate potential reversals or trend continuations.

  • Overbought/Oversold Detection: When price reaches the outer bands (e.g., the 2.618 extreme levels), it suggests the market may be overextended.
  • Confluence with Oscillators: A common strategy involves using this tool alongside oscillators like the Stochastics or MACD. For instance, a bullish oscillator crossover occurring at a lower VWAP band level can signal a long entry, with the central VWAP line or the next upper band serving as a potential target.
  • Mean Reversion: Price often gravitates back toward the central VWAP line after touching the outer deviation bands.

Details

Unlike standard VWAP indicators that use volatility-based standard deviations, this script utilizes fixed percentage offsets derived from Fibonacci sequences and significant mathematical ratios (such as 0.618, 1.618, and 2.618). These levels are calculated as a percentage of the current VWAP value:

  • Inner Bands: Calculated at 0.5% and 0.618% offsets.
  • Middle Bands: Calculated at 1.5% and 1.618% offsets.
  • Extreme Bands: Calculated at 2.0% and 2.618% offsets, highlighted with a specific fill color to denote extreme price zones.

The indicator is designed to work on any security, provided that volume data is available for the calculation of the underlying VWAP.

Settings

  • VWAP Plot: Adjust the visibility and style of the central Volume Weighted Average Price line.
  • Upper/Lower Bands: Individual visibility toggles and color settings for the different deviation levels (0.618, 1.618, 2.618, etc.).
  • Fills: Toggle the background shading between specific band pairs to better visualize overextended zones.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colored zones?

The shaded areas represent specific deviation ranges. The "Extreme" zones (2.0 - 2.618) are often where the strongest price exhaustion occurs, whereas the inner bands act as minor support or resistance.

Can I use this on a chart without volume?

Since the core calculation relies on the VWAP, the indicator requires volume data. If the security does not provide volume (such as some FX pairs or indices), the VWAP and its bands will not plot correctly.
