The Dynamic Zones Oscillators [Alerts] indicator provides an adaptive framework for determining overbought and oversold conditions by calculating dynamic percentile-based bands around a chosen oscillator source.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to improve traditional oscillator-driven systems. Unlike fixed thresholds (e.g., 70/30 on RSI), this tool adapts to current market volatility and trends by evaluating the historical distribution of the oscillator's values.

To use the tool effectively:

  1. Load a primary oscillating indicator (such as CCI, RSI, or Stochastics) onto your chart.
  2. Load the Dynamic Zones Oscillators tool.
  3. In the settings, set the Oscillator Source to the output of your primary indicator.

The tool will then project dynamic levels that represent statistical extremes. When the oscillator enters the shaded green area, it is considered overbought relative to its recent history; when it enters the red area, it is considered oversold.

Details

The concept behind Dynamic Zones is based on the research by Leo Zamansky, Ph.D., and David Stendahl. The implementation addresses the flaw of fixed trading zones, which often fail to account for shifting market regimes (bull vs. bear).

The script utilizes a percentile ranking algorithm (specifically ta.percentile_nearest_rank) to evaluate a lookback window of previous oscillator values. By calculating the high and low percentiles, the script defines zones that contain a specific percentage of recent price action, allowing the "trading zones" to evolve as the market's internal characteristics change.

Settings

  • Oscillator Source: Determines the input data for calculations. Users can select price data or the output of another indicator on the chart.
  • Sample Length: Defines the lookback window (number of previous bars) used to evaluate the percentile distribution.
  • Hi is Above X% of Sample: Sets the threshold for the overbought zone (e.g., 88% means the band is placed where only 12% of recent values have exceeded it).
  • Lo is Below X% of Sample: Sets the threshold for the oversold zone (e.g., 88% means the band is placed where only 12% of recent values have fallen below it).

FAQ

How do I access Dynamic Zones Oscillators [Alerts]? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Can I use this with any indicator? Yes, as long as the indicator is an oscillator or has a source output that can be selected via the "Source" input in the settings menu.

What is the benefit of dynamic zones over fixed levels? Dynamic zones automatically adjust to market volatility, helping to filter out premature signals in strong trending markets where oscillators might otherwise stay "pinned" at fixed extreme levels.
