The Smart Trader indicator is a volume-based multi-block analysis tool that provides aggregated market insights through composite candles, trend detection, and a narrative engine. It is designed to filter market noise by grouping bars into blocks, allowing traders to identify underlying structures and volume-driven price levels without cluttering the chart.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on interpreting the block-based analysis and the dynamic dashboard. Users can adjust the "Window Bars" and "Group Count" to define the lookback period and the granularity of the blocks.

  • Block Analysis: Instead of viewing individual candles, the script aggregates data into "Composite Candles" (ghost candles). This helps in identifying higher-timeframe patterns (like Hammers or Engulfing candles) while staying on the current timeframe.
  • Trend Channels: The indicator automatically detects trends by identifying Higher Highs/Higher Lows (HH/HL) across blocks. It draws dynamic channels that serve as support and resistance.
  • Volume Insights: Traders can toggle between Geometric (approximation) or Intrabar (precise) volume methods to see the split between buying and selling pressure (Delta).
  • Core Levels: The tool identifies Point of Control (POC), Max Buy, and Max Sell levels. These are displayed as horizontal lines only when they are the nearest untested levels to the current price, reducing visual noise.

Details

The script operates on a philosophy of "Clean Chart, Rich Dashboard." It prioritizes immediate price action by removing "consumed" levels—lines that the price has already crossed—ensuring that only relevant historical data impacts the visual analysis.

  • Fractal Concept: The composite candles represent the OHLC of an entire block. A block's "Open" is the first bar's open, and its "Close" is the last bar's close.
  • Trend Intelligence: A quality score (0-100) is calculated based on angle steepness, volume delta consistency, and body expansion. This helps quantify the health of a trend.
  • Narrative Engine: A text-based summary translates complex data points (divergences, candle patterns, and trend states) into readable analysis, supporting educational chart reading.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Window Bars: The total number of recent bars to include in the analysis.
  • Group Count: The number of blocks the window is divided into.
  • Calculation Basis: Choose between "Closed" (stable) or "Current" (real-time updates).

Block Analytics

  • Show Composite Candle: Toggles the display of aggregated ghost candles.
  • Dim Original Candles: Fades the standard chart candles to highlight block structures.

Volume Engine

  • Calculation Method: Selects between Geometric (mathematical approximation) or Intrabar (using lower timeframe data).
  • Global Period: Determines how many recent blocks contribute to the dashboard's volume metrics.

Multi-Segment Trend & Core Calculation

  • Range Angle Threshold: Sets the sensitivity for classifying a market as trending vs. ranging.
  • Nearest Only: When enabled, the chart only displays one POC, Max Buy, and Max Sell level above and below the price.
  • Project to Future: Extends trend and core lines forward for visual reference.

FAQ

How do I interpret the Quality Score? The Quality Score evaluates the strength of a trend. A score above 80 indicates high conviction with volume support, while a score below 60 suggests many technical contradictions.

What is the difference between Geometric and Intrabar volume? Geometric volume approximates the buy/sell split based on the candle's closing position. Intrabar volume uses actual data from lower timeframes (like 1-second or 1-minute) for higher precision.

How can I access the Smart Trader indicator? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
