ICT Candle Block
Nov 22, 2024

The ICT Candle Block indicator simplifies price action visualization by combining consecutive candles of the same color into a single entity to better identify ICT market structures. This tool helps traders more effectively recognize Order Blocks, liquidity voids, and Fair Value Gaps (FVGs) by filtering out choppy or slow-moving market noise and presenting price as continuous buying or selling activity.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify key institutional levels. By merging candles, the indicator creates a "mixed timeframe" view where price movement is grouped by directional intent rather than rigid time intervals.
- Order Block Identification: Large merged candles often represent significant institutional activity.
- Liquidity Voids & FVGs: The gaps and structure between these blocks help in determining the "draw on liquidity."
- Trend Visualization: In trending markets, the indicator will show long continuous blocks, whereas choppy markets will show frequent color shifts, helping traders stay on the right side of the move.
Details
Unlike traditional higher timeframe (HTF) charts that combine candles based on fixed start and end times, this script operates dynamically. It aggregates all price action into a single candle as long as the candle color (buying/selling pressure) remains the same.
Due to technical constraints within TradingView's rendering engine:
- The script uses box and line objects to mimic candles, which may cause slight misalignment with the time axis.
- The indicator is limited to displaying the last 500 blocks to maintain performance.
- The "mixed timeframe" logic ensures that any sequence of bullish or bearish activity is treated as a singular unit of market delivery.

FAQ
How do I use the ICT Candle Block for entries?
Traders typically use these blocks to identify "Breaker Blocks" or "Order Blocks." When a new block forms in the opposite direction and closes past a previous block, it often signals a shift in market structure.
Why do the candles look wider than the time axis?
Because TradingView does not have a native "Candle" object for custom-calculated timeframes like this, the script uses boxes. This can lead to visual discrepancies with the background time grid, but the price levels remain accurate.
