The Volume Profile With HVN & LVN detector indicator visually represents the distribution of trading volume across various price levels to identify key areas of market interest. This tool helps traders pinpoint significant support and resistance zones, high-activity nodes, and low-volume rejection areas for enhanced price action analysis.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, with specific focus on how its primary features assist in market analysis.

  • Support & Resistance Identification: By analyzing the Volume Profile, traders can identify price levels with the highest concentration of volume. These areas often act as psychological anchors where price is likely to stall or consolidate.
  • Rejection & Acceptance Zones: Low Volume Nodes (LVNs) indicate price levels where the market has historically spent little time, often acting as "gaps" or rejection zones. Conversely, High Volume Nodes (HVNs) indicate price acceptance and heavy participation.
  • Trade Refinement: The Volume Point of Control (VPOC) marks the single price level with the most trading activity. Traders can use this as a target for mean reversion or as a pivot for trend continuation.

Details

The script constructs the Volume Profile by aggregating data from a lower timeframe (Resolution Timeframe) into a specified aggregate period (Profile Timeframe). It utilizes security calls to pull high-precision price and volume data to ensure the profile accurately reflects intraday activity.

The detection of HVNs and LVNs is managed through local strength algorithms. An HVN is validated when a price level contains more volume than a specified number of neighboring rows, while an LVN is validated when it contains significantly less. These are then rendered as either static levels (lines) or dynamic zones (areas) to highlight the structural health of the market.

Settings

  • Rows: Defines the vertical granularity of the volume profile by setting the number of price bins.
  • Profile Timeframe: Sets the aggregate period (e.g., Daily, Weekly) for which the profile is calculated.
  • Resolution Timeframe: Specifies the lower timeframe data used to calculate volume distribution within each row.
  • Profile Color: Adjusts the visual appearance and transparency of the profile histogram.
  • Show VPOC: Toggles the visibility of the Volume Point of Control.
  • Extend Last N VPOCs: Extends historical VPOC levels to the right to see how they interact with current price action.
  • HVN/LVN Strength: Determines the sensitivity of node detection by comparing a row's volume to its neighbors.
  • HVN/LVN Type: Toggles between "Levels" (horizontal lines) and "Areas" (shaded boxes) for node visualization.
  • Bullish/Bearish Colors: Customizable colors for nodes based on whether the price is currently above or below the detected level.

FAQ

How do I identify a breakout using this tool? Breakouts are often signaled when price moves aggressively through a Low Volume Node (LVN) toward a High Volume Node (HVN), as LVNs offer little structural resistance.

Can I use this for scalping? Yes, by lowering the "Profile Timeframe" and "Resolution Timeframe," you can view volume distribution on intraday scales suitable for short-term trading.
