Consolidation Zones Volume Delta
Dec 16, 2025

The Consolidation Zones Volume Delta indicator identifies and visualizes sideways price ranges while analyzing the specific volume activity occurring within those zones. It aggregates lower-timeframe volume data into the higher-timeframe consolidation range to reveal how buying and selling pressure accumulates while price is range-bound.
Usage
This tool is used to identify areas of market indecision and determine whether buyers or sellers are gaining strength within a range. By visualizing volume delta, users can anticipate potential breakout directions based on volume dominance.
Examples of usage include:
- Trend Continuation: Identifying a consolidation zone during an uptrend where buying delta remains dominant, suggesting an eventual bullish breakout.
- Exhaustion Detection: Spotting a range where volume delta shifts significantly against the previous trend direction.
- Range Trading: Using the boundaries and internal delta levels to time entries within established sideways markets.
Details
The indicator utilizes three distinct detection methods:
- Candle Compression: Focuses on price structure, identifying bars with small bodies and reduced range expansion relative to the ATR.
- ADX Low Trend Strength: Uses the Average Directional Index to find periods of weak directional movement.
- Visual Range: Tracks rolling price boundaries to detect horizontal ranges where price remains contained.
Volume delta is calculated by pulling lower-timeframe (LTF) data. Each LTF candle's volume is weighted based on its vertical overlap with the consolidation zone's price range, ensuring that only activity within the box contributes to the cumulative delta profile.
Settings
Consolidation Zones

Standard Deviation Bands
- Enable: Projects bands based on the height of the consolidation zone.
- Band 1 / Band 2 Multipliers: Defines the distance of expansion levels from the zone boundaries.
- Fill Bands: Applies a background color between the zone and the deviation levels.
FAQ
How do I detect different types of ranges? You can switch the "Consolidation Type" in the settings to prioritize either candle structure (Candles), trend strength (ADX), or price containment (Visual Range).
Why is lower-timeframe data used for volume? Using a lower timeframe allows the indicator to "look inside" a single higher-timeframe candle to see exactly where the volume was transacted, resulting in a more accurate delta calculation for the zone.
