The MACD-TRI-L1 (12,26, close,9) indicator provides a visual representation of momentum and market structure by plotting the MACD, signal line, and a unique structure line derived from the histogram. It is designed to help traders identify trend direction and potential reversal points through classic moving average convergence/divergence calculations.

Usage

The indicator is used to identify trend momentum and structural shifts in price action. Traders typically look for crossovers between the MACD and Signal lines to determine entry or exit points.

  • Bullish Signal: When the blue MACD line crosses above the Signal line, often accompanied by the green histogram.
  • Bearish Signal: When the blue MACD line crosses below the Signal line, often accompanied by the red histogram.
  • Structure Identification: The additional structure line (SMA of the histogram) helps in smoothing out the histogram's movement to better visualize the underlying flow of momentum.

Details

The script calculates the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) using the difference between a Fast EMA and a Slow EMA. A Signal line is then calculated as an EMA of the MACD line itself.

The unique feature of this version is the "Structure" line, which is calculated as a Simple Moving Average (SMA) of the MACD histogram. While the default period is 1, this provides a secondary visual reference for the histogram's path, aiding in the identification of market structure trends alongside the standard histogram bars.

Settings

  • Fast Length: The period for the shorter-term Exponential Moving Average (default is 12).
  • Slow Length: The period for the longer-term Exponential Moving Average (default is 26).
  • Signal Length: The period used to calculate the Signal line EMA (default is 9).
  • Source: The price data used for the calculations (default is Close).

FAQ

How do I use the MACD-TRI-L1 (12,26, close,9)?

Traders use it to spot momentum shifts by watching for crossovers between the MACD and Signal lines, while using the histogram and structure line to gauge trend strength.

What is the "Structure" line?

The structure line is an SMA of the histogram values, providing an additional layer of visual analysis to help identify the shape and direction of momentum moves.
