Keltner Channel signals
Feb 17, 2019

The Keltner Channel signals indicator provides a comprehensive volatility-based framework for identifying potential market reversals and trend exhaustion. By combining highly customizable Keltner Channels with WaveTrend analysis and multi-timeframe capabilities, it offers visual trade signals based on price interaction with dynamic support and resistance levels.
Usage
The tool can be used to identify overbought and oversold conditions where price deviates significantly from its mean.
- Trend Reversals: Long signals (green triangles) appear when price recovers from oversold levels below the lower Keltner bands. Short signals (red triangles) appear when price rejects overbought levels above the upper bands.
- Dynamic Support/Resistance: The indicator plots persistent dots representing recent peak and trough price levels, serving as horizontal reference points for stop losses or profit targets.
- WaveTrend Confluence: Optional background highlights can be enabled to show WaveTrend crossovers or extreme momentum readings, providing extra confirmation for the primary Keltner signals.
- Multi-Timeframe (MTF): Users can project Keltner Channels or signals from higher timeframes onto their current chart to maintain a broad market perspective while timing entries on lower timeframes.
Details
The script calculates Keltner Channels using a baseline moving average and ATR-based offsets. Unlike standard channels, this version allows for multiple smoothing methods (SMA, EMA, DEMA, TEMA, KAMA, etc.) for both the baseline and the ATR calculation. It identifies "Buy" and "Sell" signals by monitoring a "Percent B" style calculation relative to the Keltner bands, specifically looking for price to breach and then return within defined overbought/oversold thresholds.
Settings
MA Base Setting
- MA length: Sets the period for the central baseline.
- MA Type: Selects the smoothing algorithm (e.g., EMA, SMA, KAMA).
Channels
- ATR Multiplier Min/Max: Defines the width of the inner and outer Keltner bands.
- ATR Smoothing MA: The method used to smooth the Average True Range.
- ATR Smoothing Length: The period used for the ATR calculation.
- Different Time-Period?: Enables calculating the Keltner bands on a different timeframe.
Signal & Trend Settings
- Keltner Length/Deviation: Parameters for the internal signal logic.
- Overbought/Oversold: Thresholds for triggering the triangle signals.
- Use another Timeframe?: Allows the signal logic to be processed on a higher timeframe.
WaveTrend Settings
- Channel/MA/Smoothing Length: Periods for the secondary WaveTrend momentum oscillator.
- Thresholds: Values for identifying extreme WaveTrend readings.
- Display Toggles: Options to show crossovers, overbought, or oversold background highlights.
FAQ
How do I interpret the triangle signals?
Green upward triangles suggest a potential long entry after an oversold condition, while red downward triangles suggest a potential short entry after an overbought condition.
Can I use this for scalping?
Yes, by adjusting the timeframe settings and selecting faster MA types like DEMA or TEMA, the indicator can be tuned for lower timeframe sensitivity.
How can I access Keltner Channel signals?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
