Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying potential entry and exit points based on the exhaustion of current price momentum.

• Long Signals: Occur when the Stochastic %K line crosses over the %D line while both are below the oversold threshold (typically 20).
• Short Signals: Occur when the Stochastic %K line crosses under the %D line while both are above the overbought threshold (typically 80).
• Null Signals: These represent "counter-trend" crossovers, such as a bearish cross occurring in an oversold zone or a bullish cross in an overbought zone. These can be used to identify potential trend continuations or areas of high volatility where a reversal failed to materialize.

Details

The script calculates the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and applies the Stochastic formula to that RSI value rather than price directly. This creates the Stochastic RSI, which is more sensitive to price changes than the standard RSI.

The indicator specifically filters for crossovers that occur beyond the 20 and 80 levels. By ignoring crossovers in the middle of the range, it focuses purely on mean-reversion opportunities. The output is plotted as a binary 1 or 0 value, making it highly compatible with external alert systems and automated strategies.

How do I interpret the binary plots?

When a signal is active, the corresponding plot (Long, Short, or Null) will jump to a value of 1.0. Otherwise, it remains at 0.0.

What is a "Null" signal?

A Null signal indicates a Stochastic crossover that happened in the "wrong" zone—for example, a bullish crossover occurring while the indicator is already overbought. This often suggests extreme momentum or a potential "blow-off" top/bottom.
