Volume Profile - Bear
Sep 4, 2023

The Volume Profile - Bear indicator analyzes the distribution of trading volume at different price levels over a user-defined lookback period to identify key areas of market interest. It allows traders to visualize support and resistance zones through High-Volume Nodes and the Point of Control (POC) while providing unique horizontal positioning controls to prevent chart clutter.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify market structure and significant price levels. Traders can use the profile to spot High-Volume Nodes (HVNs), which represent price levels where significant trading activity occurred, often acting as magnets or support/resistance. Conversely, Low-Volume Nodes (LVNs) indicate prices the market moved through quickly, suggesting a lack of interest or "thin" market structure.
By adjusting the "Move Profile Sideways" setting, users can shift the histogram forward or backward on the x-axis to align it with specific price action or to clear space for other drawing tools like Fibonacci retracements. The indicator also features a customizable gradient outline, which helps in visualizing the overall shape of the volume distribution without obscuring the price bars.
Details
The script calculates volume distribution by partitioning the price range between the highest high and lowest low of the lookback period into a specific number of rows (defined by the Row Size setting). For each row, the script aggregates the total volume of bars that intersected that price range.
The Point of Control (POC) is dynamically calculated as the price level with the highest total volume within the lookback window. The indicator also utilizes an HSV color gradient logic to transition colors between the bottom and top of the profile, providing a visual representation of price distribution.
