Advanced Order Blocks
Jul 5, 2024

The Advanced Order Blocks indicator identifies and visualizes significant supply and demand zones in the market. By integrating volume filtering, dynamic ATR-based sizing, and multi-timeframe analysis, this tool helps traders pinpoint high-probability areas where institutional activity may be concentrated.
Usage
The indicator identifies bullish and bearish order blocks based on price swing points. These zones represent areas of potential price reversal or continuation.
- Volume Filtering: Use the Volume Threshold setting to exclude minor price pivots. Only zones formed with high relative volume will be displayed, ensuring you focus on areas with significant market participation.
- Dynamic Sizing: Enable the Use ATR for OB Sizing feature to adjust the height of the order blocks based on current market volatility. This prevents zones from being disproportionately large during high volatility or too narrow during low volatility.
- Multi-Timeframe Analysis: Toggle the Show Higher Timeframe OB option to overlay zones from a higher period (e.g., 15m zones on a 5m chart). This is useful for identifying "nested" order blocks where a lower timeframe zone aligns with a higher timeframe structural level.
Details
Order blocks are traditionally identified as the last candle before a strong directional move that breaks market structure. This script automates that detection by looking for swing highs and lows that lead to significant displacement. The script's core logic differentiates between standard order blocks and "breaker" blocks (zones that have been breached by price). When a zone is invalidated, the script can alert the user, providing insights into potential shifts in market sentiment.
Settings
- Bullish/Bearish color: Customizes the visual appearance of the demand and supply zones.
- Volume Threshold: Sets the minimum volume required during the formation of an order block for it to be displayed.
- Show Higher Timeframe OB: Enables the display of order blocks from a different period than the current chart.
- Higher Timeframe: Determines which timeframe is used for the multi-timeframe analysis.
- Use ATR for OB Sizing: When enabled, uses the Average True Range to calculate the vertical height of the block.
- ATR Period/Multiplier: Parameters used to calculate the volatility-based sizing of the zones.
- Number of Bullish/Bearish OBs: Limits the number of active zones displayed on the chart to maintain clarity.
FAQ
How do I use the volume threshold effectively?
You should adjust the Volume Threshold based on the asset you are trading. Look at the typical volume of recent candles and set the threshold slightly higher to filter out "noise" and focus on institutional moves.
Can I see both local and higher timeframe zones at once?
Yes, by enabling the Higher Timeframe option, the indicator will prioritize levels from the selected higher period, allowing you to see how current price action interacts with broader market structures.
