The Ichimoku Cloud with MACD indicator provides a comprehensive trend-following framework by combining the multi-faceted support/resistance levels of the Ichimoku Kinko Hyo system with the momentum confirmation of the MACD oscillator. This tool is designed to identify high-probability trend entries by ensuring that price action, sentiment, and momentum are all aligned.

Usage

The tool is used to identify trend direction and potential entry points based on the confluence of five Ichimoku components and MACD crossovers.

Bullish Setup: A long signal is considered when the following conditions align:

  • Tenkan-Sen (Conversion Line) is above the Kijun-Sen (Base Line).
  • The Chikou-Span (Lagging Span) is above the price from 26 periods ago.
  • The current price is trading above the Kumo Cloud.
  • The MACD line crosses above the signal line.

Bearish Setup: A short signal is considered when the following conditions align:

  • Tenkan-Sen is below the Kijun-Sen.
  • The Chikou-Span is below the price from 26 periods ago.
  • The current price is trading below the Kumo Cloud.
  • The MACD line crosses below the signal line.

Details

The Ichimoku Cloud, developed by Goichi Hosoda, uses five lines to plot support and resistance. The "Cloud" (Kumo) is formed by the space between Senkou Span A and Senkou Span B, projected forward to forecast future areas of interest.

By integrating the MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) using standard settings (12, 26, 9), the script adds a layer of momentum filtering. This ensures that trades are only taken when there is active momentum in the direction of the broader Ichimoku trend, reducing the risk of "fakeouts" during low-volatility periods.

Settings

  • Tenkan-Sen Bars: The period for the Conversion Line (default is 9).
  • Kijun-Sen Bars: The period for the Base Line (default is 26).
  • Senkou-Span B Bars: The period for the Leading Span B (default is 52).
  • Chikou-Span Offset: The number of bars to displace the Lagging Span (default is 26).
  • Senkou-Span Offset: The number of bars to project the Cloud forward (default is 26).
  • Long Entry / Short Entry: Toggle switches to enable or disable specific trade directions.
