The Moving VWAP-KAMA Cloud indicator provides a high-conviction trend filtering system by combining a smoothed Volume Weighted Average Price (MVWAP) with Kaufman’s Adaptive Moving Average (KAMA) to identify market structure and value zones.

Usage

The Moving VWAP-KAMA Cloud is primarily used to identify the current market regime and filter out price noise. The tool generates a "Value Zone" (the cloud) that helps traders stay on the right side of a sustained trend.

  • Trend Identification: A green/teal cloud indicates a bullish regime (MVWAP > KAMA), while a purple/red cloud indicates a bearish regime (MVWAP < KAMA).
  • Dynamic Support & Resistance: The KAMA line within the cloud often acts as a hard boundary. During a trend, price retracements into the cloud that bounce off the KAMA line can signal continuation.
  • Reversal Confirmation: A "Cloud Flip" occurs when the MVWAP crosses the KAMA. Traders often look for a breakout above the cloud followed by a successful retest of the cloud top (the "Slingshot" effect) to confirm a structural trend change.
  • No-Trade Zones: When price oscillates within the cloud, it suggests the market is at "fair value" and lacks a clear directional bias, indicating a period where traders might stand aside.

Details

This script utilizes a "Double Smoothing" architecture to ensure the trend signals are robust:

  1. The Anchor (MVWAP): The calculation starts with the standard Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) and applies an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) to smooth out erratic volume spikes.
  2. The Filter (KAMA): Kaufman’s Adaptive Moving Average is then applied to the smoothed MVWAP. KAMA is uniquely designed to adapt to market conditions; it flattens during low-volatility periods to avoid false signals and becomes more responsive during high-momentum moves.
  3. The Cloud: The area between these two smoothed components visualizes the gap between volume-weighted fair value and adaptive price momentum.

Settings

Inputs

  • Moving VWAP Period: Determines the lookback period for the base VWAP smoothing.
  • MVWAP Smoothing: Sets the period for the secondary EMA smoothing applied to the VWAP.
  • KAMA Length: The efficiency ratio period for the adaptive moving average.
  • KAMA Fastest / Slowest: These settings control the sensitivity of the KAMA's adaptive filter.

Visuals

  • Display Lines: Toggles the visibility of the individual MVWAP and KAMA lines.
  • Cloud Transparency: Adjusts the opacity of the trend cloud.
  • Bullish/Bearish Cloud Color: Customizes the colors used for trend identification.

FAQ

How do I use the Moving VWAP-KAMA Cloud?

The indicator is best used as a trend conviction tool. You can look for "Cloud Flips" to identify potential regime changes and use the cloud itself as a zone for dynamic support or resistance.

Is this a standalone signal provider?

While it identifies trends, it is best used as a filter alongside faster momentum indicators like RSI or MACD. For example, a "Buy" signal from an oscillator is higher probability when the Cloud is green.
