MACDVXI
Oct 12, 2019

The MACDVXI indicator provides a visually enhanced implementation of the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), designed to help traders identify momentum shifts and trend reversals through a combination of histogram dynamics and signal line crossovers.
Usage
The MACDVXI can be used to gauge market momentum and potential entry or exit points based on the relationship between its three primary components:
- Histogram: The color-coded columns represent the distance between the MACD line and the Signal line. A brightening color indicates strengthening momentum (growing histogram), while a fading color indicates weakening momentum (falling histogram).
- Crossovers: When the MACD line crosses above the Signal line, a bullish dot appears, suggesting upward momentum. Conversely, when the MACD line crosses below the Signal line, a bearish dot appears, suggesting downward momentum.
- Background Highlighting: The script includes background shading to provide an immediate visual cue of the current trend bias based on the relationship between the MACD and its signal.
Details
This implementation utilizes standard MACD logic but focuses on improved visual clarity and alert functionality. The MACD line is calculated as the difference between a Fast EMA and a Slow EMA. The Signal line is a Simple Moving Average (SMA) of that MACD line. By analyzing the "Histogram" (MACD - Signal), traders can visualize the rate of change in price momentum. The visual updates in this version ensure that momentum cycles (growing vs. falling) are easily distinguishable through a four-color gradient system.
Settings
- Source: Determines the price data used for the calculations (default is Close).
- Fast Length: The period for the shorter Exponential Moving Average.
- Slow Length: The period for the longer Exponential Moving Average.
- Signal Smoothing: The period for the Simple Moving Average applied to the MACD line to create the Signal line.
FAQ
How do I use the bullish and bearish dots?
The dots signify a crossover between the MACD and Signal lines. A green (bullish) dot appears when the MACD crosses above the Signal line, while a red (bearish) dot appears when it crosses below.
What do the histogram colors represent?
The histogram uses four colors to show whether the gap between lines is increasing or decreasing above or below the zero line, helping identify "exhaustion" before a crossover occurs.
