The Advanced Support and Resistance Levels[MAP] indicator identifies and plots key historical price levels using a sophisticated system of pivot detection, volume weighting, and level decay. It provides a visual framework of significant support and resistance areas to help traders identify potential market reversals or consolidation zones with enhanced precision.

Usage

The tool can be applied to any chart to automatically highlight significant price levels. Thicker, more opaque lines indicate "stronger" levels based on the number of touches and volume, while optional price zones provide a visual area of influence rather than a single price point.

  • Identifying Reversals: Use the support (green) and resistance (red) zones to anticipate potential turning points.
  • Assessing Level Strength: Focus on lines with higher visual weight; these represent levels with more historical touches or higher relative volume.
  • Trend Confirmation: The indicator uses an internal SMA check to filter pivots, ensuring levels align with broader market context.
  • Alerts: Traders can set alerts for when the price crosses over a resistance level or under a support level to capture breakouts or breakdowns.

Details

This script employs a dynamic array management system to track and rank levels. It doesn't just plot every high and low; it calculates a strength metric for each level by combining:

  1. Touches: The number of times price has interacted with the level.
  2. Volume Weighting: Using a logarithmic scale to emphasize pivots occurring on high volume.
  3. Age Decay: Gradually reducing the relevance of older levels to ensure current price action is prioritized.

Nearby levels are merged using a strength-weighted average to prevent chart clutter, and a selection sort algorithm ensures only the most significant levels (up to a user-defined limit) are displayed.

Settings

Detection & Management

  • Lookback Period: Sets the number of bars for the internal trend confirmation.
  • Pivot Strength: The number of bars required on each side to confirm a high or low pivot.
  • Price Tolerance %: The percentage range used to merge nearby levels into a single zone.
  • Max Levels to Show: Limits the total number of support and resistance levels displayed on the chart.

Visualization

  • Zone Size %: Determines the vertical width of the zones surrounding the level price.
  • Line Width: Sets the maximum thickness for the level lines.
  • Show Labels: Toggles the visibility of price and strength labels.
  • Label Position: Moves labels to the left or right side of the level lines.

Strength Logic

  • Level Strength Decay: When enabled, older levels lose importance over time.
  • Volume Weighting: When enabled, pivots with higher relative volume contribute more to level strength.

FAQ

How do I access the Advanced Support and Resistance Levels[MAP]?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Why do some levels disappear or move?

The indicator uses a pruning system. If a new, stronger level is detected and the "Max Levels to Show" limit is reached, the weakest historical level is removed. Levels also adjust their price slightly when merging with new nearby pivots.

Can I use this for day trading?

Yes. For shorter timeframes, it is recommended to decrease the Pivot Strength and Lookback Period to capture more immediate price fluctuations.
