The CM Sling Shot System indicator provides a dual-layered trend-following framework designed to identify high-probability entries during trending markets using moving average relationships and price action pullbacks.

Usage

The CM Sling Shot System is primarily used to identify entries within an established trend. It utilizes two exponential moving averages (EMAs) to define the trend direction and specific price interactions with these averages to trigger signals.

  • Trend Identification: The space between the 38 EMA (Fast) and 62 EMA (Slow) is shaded. A green zone indicates a bullish trend, while a red zone indicates a bearish trend.
  • Aggressive Entries (Pullbacks): These signals occur when price retraces into or through the fast EMA while the trend remains intact. These are highlighted by yellow bars and serve as early warnings or "aggressive" entry points for traders looking to enter at a better price before momentum resumes.
  • Conservative Entries: These signals are triggered when price successfully closes back above the fast EMA (in an uptrend) or below the fast EMA (in a downtrend) following a pullback. These are represented by aqua-colored bars and can be toggled to show "B" (Buy) or "S" (Sell) labels or arrows.
  • Trend Continuity: Triangle shapes at the top and bottom of the chart provide a constant visual reference of the current trend state based on the EMA cross.

Details

The script is constructed using a 38-period EMA and a 62-period EMA. The core logic relies on the "Sling Shot" effect: price moving away from the mean (the EMAs), pulling back toward them (the "stretch"), and then snapping back in the direction of the primary trend.

  1. Trend Filter: The system only looks for long entries when the 38 EMA is above the 62 EMA, and short entries when the 38 EMA is below the 62 EMA.
  2. Pullback Logic: An aggressive signal is generated when the trend is established but the current close price is on the "wrong" side of the fast EMA (e.g., close is below the 38 EMA during an uptrend).
  3. Confirmation Logic: A conservative signal requires the previous bar to have closed on the "wrong" side of the fast EMA, while the current bar closes back in the direction of the trend. This confirms that the pullback has likely ended and momentum is returning.

Settings

  • Show Aggressive Entry?: Toggles the highlighting of yellow bars when price pulls back against the trend.
  • Show Conservative Entry?: Toggles the highlighting of aqua bars when price confirms a trend resumption.
  • Show Trend Arrows at Top and Bottom of Screen?: Enables/disables the visual trend triangles at the chart boundaries.
  • Only Choose 1 - Either Conservative Entry Arrows or 'B'-'S' Letters: A logic toggle to prevent visual clutter by ensuring only one type of signal label is active.
  • Show Conservative Entry Arrows?: Displays green/red arrows at the point of conservative entry confirmation.
  • Show 'B'-'S' Letters?: Displays "B" for Buy and "S" for Sell at the point of conservative entry confirmation.

FAQ

How do I use the CM Sling Shot System for risk management?

Traders typically use the slow EMA (62-period) or the recent swing high/low formed during the pullback as a technical stop-loss level, as a break beyond these points would invalidate the trend-following setup.

What timeframes work best with this indicator?

While the system is adaptable, it is traditionally used on timeframes where trends are more persistent, such as the 15-minute, 1-hour, or 4-hour charts.
