Pivot Based (Retrospective)

The Support & Resistance Zones indicator provides a visual framework for identifying key areas where price is likely to bounce or reverse, helping traders capitalize on supply and demand dynamics through automated zone detection.

Usage

The tool is primarily designed for traders who focus on bounces or "break and retest" strategies. By highlighting historical areas of price sensitivity, users can anticipate market reactions at specific price levels.

  • Bounces: Traders look for bullish price action at green support zones or bearish price action at red resistance zones to enter positions.
  • Breakouts: When price closes decisively through a zone, it may signal a trend continuation or a shift in market structure.
  • Retests: After a zone is broken, it often flips its role (support becomes resistance or vice versa). Traders use the extended boxes to time entries on the first return to the level.
  • Risk Management: Zones serve as logical references for placing stop-loss orders (outside the zone) or setting take-profit targets (at the opposing zone).

Details

The indicator utilizes pivot points (fractals) to determine significant market highs and lows. It identifies "Bull Fractals" (low points) to form support zones and "Bear Fractals" (high points) to form resistance zones.

The boxes are constructed based on the candle body and wick at the time the fractal is confirmed. Specifically, for a resistance zone, the box spans from the high of the pivot candle to its highest body value (either open or close). Conversely, for a support zone, the box spans from the low of the pivot candle to its lowest body value. This method ensures the zones capture the most critical area of price rejection.

Settings

  • Switch Zone Period: This determines the sensitivity of the fractal detection. A higher value requires more candles to confirm a pivot, resulting in fewer but more significant zones.
  • No. of Displayed Zones: Controls the maximum number of recent support and resistance zones shown on the chart (up to 8).
  • Zone Extension: Defines how far to the right of the current bar the zones are projected for visual clarity.
  • Resistance Zone Color: Customizes the background color for resistance areas.
  • Support Zone Color: Customizes the background color for support areas.

FAQ

How do I access the Support & Resistance Zones indicator?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Why do some zones disappear?

The "No. of Displayed Zones" setting limits how many boxes are kept on the chart. As new zones are formed, the oldest ones are removed to keep the chart clean.

What does the Switch Zone Period affect?

It affects the "weight" of the levels. A period of 3 looks for local pivots, whereas a period of 10 would look for much more significant swing highs and lows.
