The M0PB (Momentum Pullback) indicator identifies high-momentum states using extreme RSI readings and signals entries on the subsequent first pullback, providing a structured approach to trend-following in volatile markets.

Usage

The strategy is designed to capitalize on strong momentum by waiting for a temporary retracement rather than chasing overextended price action.

  • Bullish Scenario: When the RSI rises above 90, the script highlights a high-momentum "overbought" zone. A long entry is triggered if the price pulls back to touch the 5-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of the lows within 6 bars of the momentum signal.
  • Bearish Scenario: When the RSI falls below 10, a bearish momentum zone is highlighted. A short entry is triggered if the price pulls back to touch the 5-period EMA of the highs within 6 bars of the signal.

Exits are managed dynamically using a rolling 12-bar high (for longs) or low (for shorts). This ensures that if the market enters a consolidation phase, the profit target gradually tightens toward the current price.

Details

Unlike traditional RSI strategies that look for mean reversion when RSI reaches extremes, M0PB treats these levels as evidence of strong trend strength. The 6-period RSI is used to detect these rapid shifts in velocity.

The entry mechanism uses a specific "touch" of the 5 EMA (High/Low) to ensure the pullback has sufficient depth before entering. This method aims to filter out minor fluctuations while entering early enough to catch the trend resumption. While the script is robust across various markets, it is optimized for 5-minute intervals on Forex, Indices, and Crypto to balance signal frequency with execution costs like slippage and commissions.

Settings

  • ATR Stop Multiplier: Determines the distance of the hard stop loss from the entry price based on market volatility (ATR). Increasing this value gives the trade more room to breathe, while decreasing it results in tighter risk management.

FAQ

How do I use the M0PB (Momentum Pullback)?

The indicator automatically highlights momentum zones on the chart. Look for entry signals when the price retraces to the 5 EMA following an extreme RSI reading (above 90 or below 10).

What timeframes are best for this strategy?

The strategy is optimized for the 5-minute timeframe. Lower timeframes may introduce excessive noise and higher transaction costs, while higher timeframes may provide fewer but more significant signals.
