Bollinger + RSI, Double Strategy Long-Only (by ChartArt) v1.2
Oct 4, 2017

The Bollinger + RSI, Double Strategy Long-Only (by ChartArt) v1.2 indicator provides a systematic long-only trading framework that combines Relative Strength Index (RSI) momentum with Bollinger Band volatility envelopes to identify high-probability mean-reversion entries.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify entry and exit points based on the confluence of momentum and volatility. The strategy is designed to capture upside movement when a market is technically oversold.
- Long Entry: The strategy triggers a long position when both the RSI and the price action signal an oversold recovery. Specifically, the script looks for the RSI to cross above its midpoint (50) while the price simultaneously crosses above the lower Bollinger Band.
- Exit Strategy: Positions are closed when the market reaches an overbought state relative to the strategy parameters. This occurs when the RSI crosses below its midpoint (50) and the price crosses below the upper Bollinger Band.
- Visual Feedback: Users can enable bar coloring and background highlights to quickly identify when the trend conditions are met. Green highlights indicate bullish recovery setups, while red highlights indicate potential exhaustion at the upper bands.
Details
The script operates on the principle of double confirmation. By requiring both a momentum oscillator (RSI) and a volatility measure (Bollinger Bands) to align, it attempts to filter out "false bottoms" where price may be hugging the lower band without sufficient momentum to reverse.
The strategy uses a default RSI length of 6 and a Bollinger Band length of 200. This configuration seeks to identify short-term momentum shifts within a longer-term volatility context. Unlike version 1.1, this version (v1.2) is optimized specifically for long-only executions, removing short-side trades to better align with markets that exhibit a long-term upward bias. The strategy includes a stop-entry mechanism at the lower Bollinger Band to ensure trades are only executed when price action confirms the reversal.
Settings
- RSI Period Length: Sets the lookback period for the Relative Strength Index calculation. Lower values make the RSI more sensitive to recent price changes.
- Bollinger Period Length: Determines the number of bars used to calculate the Simple Moving Average (SMA) and Standard Deviation for the bands.
- Enable Bar Color?: Toggles the highlighting of price bars when specific entry/exit conditions are met.
- Enable Background Color?: Toggles the background shading to provide a broader visual cue of current trend signals.
FAQ
How does the strategy confirm an entry? The strategy requires a "double crossover": the RSI must cross above 50 while the price simultaneously crosses back above the lower Bollinger Band.
Can I use this for shorting? This specific version (v1.2) is optimized for long-only trades. For shorting capabilities, refer to version 1.1 of the original ChartArt script.
