The MACD Volume S2 indicator provides a comprehensive oscillator-based analysis tool that combines standard Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) mechanics with volume-weighted linear regression and divergence detection. It is designed to assist traders in identifying trend momentum, potential reversals, and volume-driven market strength across various asset classes, with a particular emphasis on crypto and forex.

Usage

The indicator provides several visual layers to assist with market interpretation:

  • MACD & Signal Lines: Monitor the crossovers between the MACD and Signal lines to identify momentum shifts. A crossover above the signal line typically suggests bullish momentum, while a cross below suggests bearish momentum.
  • Histogram: The color-coded histogram indicates the strength of the momentum. Darker colors represent growing momentum, while lighter colors represent receding momentum relative to the previous bar.
  • Volume Background: The chart background changes color based on the relationship between price slope and volume delta.
    • Teal/Green Background: Indicates bullish priority. Look for long entries when the MACD lines are green and the histogram is positive.
    • Pink/Red Background: Indicates bearish priority. Look for short entries when the MACD lines are pink and the histogram is negative.
  • Divergence Labels: The script automatically plots "R" for Regular Divergence and "H" for Hidden Divergence.
    • Regular Bullish (R): Occurs when price makes a lower low but the MACD makes a higher low, suggesting a potential reversal to the upside.
    • Hidden Bullish (H): Occurs when price makes a higher low but the MACD makes a lower low, suggesting trend continuation.

Details

The script utilizes several advanced calculation methods:

  • Volume Weighting: It calculates the "rate" of volume distribution based on candle wicks and body size, providing a more nuanced view of buying vs. selling pressure compared to standard volume.
  • Linear Regression: The volume background logic uses linear regression slopes of both price and volume deltas to categorize market conditions into six distinct states (Strong, Medium, and Weak for both Bullish and Bearish).
  • Divergence Logic: It uses pivot points and lookback ranges to identify discrepancies between price action and oscillator movement, filtering out noise based on user-defined thresholds.

Settings

MACD Settings

  • Fast Length: The period for the fast moving average.
  • Slow Length: The period for the slow moving average.
  • Source: The price data used for calculations (e.g., HLC3).
  • Signal Smoothing: The period for the signal line.
  • Oscillator/Signal MA Type: Choice between SMA or EMA for the MACD and Signal line calculations.

Histogram & Colors

  • Color Settings: Customization for the MACD, Signal line, and various histogram growth/fall states.

Volume Length

  • Short Term Length: The lookback period for short-term volume slope calculation.
  • Long Term Length: The lookback period for long-term volume slope calculation.

Volume Background

  • Strong/Medium/Weak Bullish/Bearish: Color selection for the background transparency levels based on the strength of the volume trend.

Divergence

  • Dont touch the zero line: When enabled, regular bullish divergences are only valid if the MACD is below zero, and bearish ones if the MACD is above zero.
  • Pivot Lookback Right/Left: The number of bars required to confirm a pivot point.
  • Max/Min Lookback Range: The distance constraints between the two points forming a divergence.
  • Plot Regular/Hidden Bull/Bear: Toggles for specific divergence types.

FAQ

How do I interpret the background colors? The background colors represent volume-weighted trends. Green/Teal suggests that buying pressure is dominant according to linear regression, while Pink/Red suggests selling pressure is leading.

What is the difference between 'R' and 'H' labels? 'R' stands for Regular Divergence, which often signals a trend reversal. 'H' stands for Hidden Divergence, which typically indicates trend continuation.
