VWAP Bands - MultiTF and anchored
Jul 19, 2019

The VWAP Bands - MultiTF and anchored indicator provides a comprehensive volume-weighted average price solution that allows users to monitor two different timeframes simultaneously with optional anchoring to specific historical points. This tool helps traders identify hidden support and resistance levels through a combination of VWAP lines and standard deviation bands, making it highly effective for intraday trend analysis and mean reversion strategies.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on how to interpret the various components of the tool for better market timing and trend identification.
- Multi-Timeframe VWAP: You can display a "Short" and "Long" VWAP simultaneously. For example, setting the Short TF to "D" (Daily) and the Long TF to "W" (Weekly) allows you to see the immediate session trend relative to the broader weekly trend.
- Anchoring: By enabling the anchor options, the VWAP calculation starts from a specific user-defined date and time (Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute) rather than the standard session start. This is useful for tracking the average price since a major event, such as an earnings release or a significant swing high/low.
- Standard Deviation Bands: The tool provides up to four levels of standard deviation bands for both the short and long VWAP. These bands act as dynamic overbought/oversold zones.
- Trend Coloring: The VWAP lines change color based on their angle of slope. Greener shades indicate a stronger upward slope (bullish momentum), while redder shades indicate a stronger downward slope (bearish momentum).
Details
The script calculates the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) and its associated standard deviation based on the HLC3 (High, Low, Close / 3) price source. A unique feature of this implementation is the slope-based coloring system. The fAngle function measures the rate of change of the VWAP relative to the price range over the last 30 bars, converting this into an angle. This visual feedback helps traders quickly assess the strength of the current trend without needing to manually inspect price action.

FAQ
How can I use this for intraday trading? You can set the Short TF to 'D' to track the current session's volume-weighted average. The bands will then serve as potential support or resistance levels where price may bounce or consolidate.
What does it mean when the VWAP line turns bright green? A bright green color indicates that the VWAP is sloping upwards at a significant angle, suggesting strong bullish momentum in that specific timeframe.
