Tenkan Cloud Signals
Jan 6, 2026

The Tenkan Cloud Signals indicator provides a specialized framework for interpreting Ichimoku components by analyzing the position of the Tenkan-sen relative to the Kumo cloud to identify trend structure and potential breakout zones.
Usage
The script is designed to help traders categorize market conditions based on the "altitude" of the Tenkan line. By visualizing the Tenkan line as a directional pathfinder navigating the Kumo (Cloud), users can quickly identify clear trend phases versus periods of market noise.
- Long Bias: A bullish outlook is favored when the Tenkan line rises above the cloud. This suggests clear "airspace" for upward movement.
- Short Bias: A bearish outlook is favored when the Tenkan line descends below the cloud, indicating downward momentum.
- Neutral/Stay Out: When the Tenkan line is inside the cloud, the market is considered to be in a "turbulence zone," characterized by indecision or sideways chop.
Buy and Sell flags are generated based on the relationship between the Kijun-sen and the forward-displaced Senkou Span B, filtered by a user-defined number of confirming closes to reduce false signals.
Details
This script utilizes a reimagined Ichimoku approach. While traditional systems often focus on price crossovers, this tool emphasizes the structural relationship between the conversion and base lines relative to the cloud boundaries.
The core logic uses Donchian mid-points for the Tenkan (7-period default) and Kijun (22-period default) calculations. The Kumo Cloud consists of Senkou Span A and Senkou Span B, which are projected forward by a displacement setting (default 22). This forward projection is critical for signal generation, as the indicator compares current line values against the historically projected cloud boundaries to determine trend strength.

FAQ
How do I interpret the Tenkan line being inside the cloud?
When the Tenkan line is within the Kumo, it indicates a period of consolidation or high volatility without a clear trend. It is generally advised to wait for a breakout above or below the cloud for higher probability setups.
What determines the Buy and Sell signals?
Signals are triggered when the Kijun-sen crosses the value of the Senkou Span B at the current bar (the displaced value) and remains confirmed over the selected number of bars.
