The Early MACD Reversal Indicator tool aims to identify potential trend reversals by detecting shifts in momentum through the MACD histogram. It provides early warnings when a trend's strength begins to fade, allowing traders to anticipate market turning points before they are fully realized by standard lagging indicators.

Usage

The indicator can be used to spot early entries in both bullish and bearish market conditions. When the MACD histogram is trending upward and begins to decrease in breadth, the tool highlights a potential bearish reversal with a red vertical background and a downward triangle. Conversely, when the histogram is trending downward and starts to rise, it signals a potential bullish reversal with a green vertical background and an upward triangle.

Traders can utilize these signals to:

  • Identify potential exhaustion points in existing trends.
  • Scalp short-term reversals in ranging markets.
  • Combine with other technical analysis tools to confirm entry and exit points.

Details

The indicator is built upon the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) logic, specifically focusing on the histogram (the difference between the MACD line and the Signal line).

The reversal logic is based on a specific sequence of histogram values. A buy signal is triggered when the histogram is below zero and has been declining for at least five consecutive bars, followed by a bar where the histogram value finally increases. This sequence indicates that the downward momentum has peaked and is starting to contract. The sell signal follows the inverse logic: the histogram must be above zero and rising for five consecutive bars before the first decrease in value occurs, marking a potential top.

Settings

  • Fast EMA Length: Sets the period for the shorter Exponential Moving Average used in the MACD calculation (default is 12).
  • Slow EMA Length: Sets the period for the longer Exponential Moving Average used in the MACD calculation (default is 26).
  • Value Source: Determines the price data used for calculations (e.g., Close, Open, High, Low).
  • Signal Smoothing: Sets the EMA period used to smooth the MACD line to create the Signal line (default is 9).
