MTF 3 Moving Averages (EMA & SMA)
Mar 25, 2022

The MTF 3 Moving Averages (EMA & SMA) indicator provides a streamlined way to track three distinct moving averages from higher timeframes on a single chart to identify significant support, resistance, and trend direction.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used, particularly for identifying institutional levels and trend confluence across multiple time horizons. By default, traders can project daily (1D) moving averages onto intraday charts such as the 1H or 4H timeframes.
Common applications include:
- Trend Identification: Using the 200-period EMA from a higher timeframe to determine the primary market bias.
- Dynamic Support/Resistance: Identifying areas where price may react based on higher-tier moving averages (e.g., the 50, 100, or 200 EMA/SMA).
- Confluence Trading: Enabling both SMA and EMA simultaneously to find price "zones" where both calculation methods align.
Details
The script utilizes the request.security function to fetch data from a user-defined timeframe. It calculates three separate lengths for both Simple Moving Averages (SMA) and Exponential Moving Averages (EMA). Users can toggle the visibility of the SMA and EMA lines independently, allowing for a total of six potential lines on the chart or a simplified view of just three. The script includes built-in alert conditions for crossovers and crossunders between the first two moving average lengths to assist in trend reversal identification.
