The Alto Basso Swing Pivots + Barry Support Resistance Levels indicator provides a comprehensive toolkit for identifying short-term market structure and key horizontal support/resistance levels through swing detection and fractal-based logic.

Usage

The tool combines three distinct methodologies to help traders identify trend direction and potential reversal zones:

  • Swing Pivots (Alto/Basso): These marks identify high and low points based on a specified lookback period ("Dal Segno"). Users can use these to confirm the formation of new market structures or local highs and lows.
  • Barry Support & Resistance: These levels are calculated using a fractal-based approach. When price action consolidates or forms a significant peak/trough, a horizontal line is projected. These levels are often used to identify supply and demand zones; when they align with other technical tools like Fibonacci levels, they may signal higher probability setups.
  • SMMA Triple Ribbon: The inclusion of three Smoothed Moving Averages (SMMA) allows for trend filtering. Traders typically look for price to be above the SMMA stack for bullish bias or below for bearish bias.

Details

The script utilizes a custom swingDetection function that looks back a specific number of bars to verify if a high or low is truly a pivot relative to its neighbors. The Barry Support and Resistance levels utilize the isFractal logic, which identifies price extremes within a specific window (Barry Length). Unlike standard pivots, these levels are plotted with an offset to align with the actual peak or trough that formed the level.

Settings

Swing Finder

  • Dal Segno: The lookback period length used to determine swing pivots.
  • Show Dal Segno: Toggles the visibility of immediate swing signals on the current bar.

Support/Resistance

  • Barry Length: The length used for the fractal-based support and resistance calculation.

SMMA

  • SMMA 1/2/3 Length: Sets the lookback period for the three Smoothed Moving Averages.
  • SMMA 1/2/3 Source: Determines the price data (e.g., Close, Open) used for the SMMA calculations.

FAQ

How do I use the Alto Basso signals?

Alto (High) and Basso (Low) signals appear once a pivot is confirmed based on the "Dal Segno" lookback. They are best used to identify shifts in short-term market structure.

What are Barry Support and Resistance levels?

These are horizontal levels based on fractal price extremes. They represent areas where the market has previously found significant floor or ceiling support.
