The Momentum Pulse | Anonycryptous indicator maps market momentum across twenty simultaneous lookback periods to visualize trend strength, direction, compression, and divergence within a single ribbon-style oscillator. This tool helps traders identify momentum shifts across multiple timescales before they confirm on price action.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market momentum and find potential trade setups.

  • Ribbon Fanning: When the strands spread out (fan), momentum is building with high conviction. An upward fan indicates bullish momentum, while a downward fan indicates bearish momentum.
  • Twist/Squeeze (Compression): When the strands collapse toward each other and the background turns grey, the market is in a "Twist" state. This signifies a coiling market that often precedes a significant directional breakout.
  • Trend Reversals: Monitor the fast group (leading strands) relative to the slow group (lagging strands). When the fast group crosses the slow group or collapses toward it, momentum is fading.
  • Slope Analysis: The slope line measures acceleration. A rising slope indicates accelerating momentum, while a falling slope suggests trend exhaustion.
  • Divergence Detection: The indicator highlights hidden strength or weakness by comparing price pivots with fast group momentum pivots.

Details

The indicator is constructed using twenty RSI calculations processed through Zero Lag EMA (ZLEMA) smoothing to reduce the response delay typical of standard moving averages. All values are normalized to a -50 to +50 scale around a zero midline for consistent comparison.

The logic segments the ribbon into two distinct groups:

  • Fast Group: Strands 1-5 (shortest lookbacks) capturing immediate momentum shifts.
  • Slow Group: Strands 16-20 (longest lookbacks) reflecting the sustained underlying trend.

By calculating the spread between these two groups, the tool can programmatically determine trend states (Bullish/Bearish) or compression states (Twist) without relying on arbitrary overbought or oversold levels.

Settings

Calculation Parameters

  • Preset: Choose between Default (Swing), Fast (Scalping), or Smooth (Position trading) to automatically adjust lookback periods.
  • Source: The price data used for the RSI calculations.
  • Base Length: The lookback period for the fastest ribbon strand.
  • Length Step: The increment added to each subsequent strand to create the ribbon spread.
  • ZLEMA Length: The smoothing period applied to each RSI strand to compensate for lag.
  • Twist Threshold: The minimum spread required to declare a trend; values below this trigger the "Twist" state.
  • Divergence Lookback: The window used for comparing price and momentum pivots.
  • Slope Length: The number of bars used to calculate momentum acceleration.

Visualization Settings

  • Color Preset: Toggle between Classic (Green/Red) or Custom color schemes.
  • Min/Max Transparency: Controls the opacity gradient from the leading to the lagging strands to create visual depth.

Level Settings

  • Overbought/Oversold Level: Sets the horizontal reference lines on the pane.

Dashboard Settings

  • Show Dashboard: Toggles the real-time data table showing momentum state, spread, and active divergences.

FAQ

How do I interpret the different background flashes? A grey background indicates a Twist/Squeeze (compression). Green or Red flashes indicate bullish or bearish breakouts from that compression. Orange or dim red flashes indicate bullish or bearish divergence detection.

Which preset should I use for my trading style? Use "Fast" for lower timeframes (1m-15m) to catch early shifts, "Default" for 1H-4H swing trading, and "Smooth" for daily or weekly position trading to filter out noise.
