The MACD Indicator BF tool provides a specialized approach to momentum-based trading by utilizing the MACD histogram (delta) to generate actionable signals and dynamic stop-loss levels.

Usage

The MACD Indicator BF is used to identify trend shifts based on the relationship between the MACD Line and the Signal Line. A primary signal is generated when the delta (histogram) crosses the zero line.

  • Long Signal: Occurs when the delta crosses above zero, indicating bullish momentum.
  • Short Signal: Occurs when the delta crosses below zero, indicating bearish momentum.

The indicator also features dynamic ATR-based trailing stops to help manage risk. These are visualized as circles on the chart and provide specific exit points when the price crosses them.

Details

The script calculates the MACD Line as the difference between a Fast EMA and a Slow EMA. A Signal Line is then derived by taking an EMA of the MACD Line itself. The core logic focuses on the "Delta," which is the difference between these two lines.

In addition to momentum signals, the script incorporates an Average True Range (ATR) calculation to determine stop-loss levels. This ensures that exits are adjusted based on market volatility, helping traders avoid premature exits during choppy price action while protecting capital during trend reversals.

Settings

  • Fast Length: The period for the fast Exponential Moving Average (default is 13).
  • Slow Length: The period for the slow Exponential Moving Average (default is 30).
  • MACD Length: The period for the signal line EMA (default is 12).
  • ATR Stop Period: The lookback period used for the ATR volatility calculation (default is 2).
  • ATR Stop Multiplier: The multiplier applied to the ATR value to set the distance of the stop loss (default is 1.25).

FAQ

How do I use the MACD Indicator BF signals?

Signals are generated when the MACD histogram crosses the zero line. Use the green signals for bullish entries and red signals for bearish entries, while monitoring the ATR circles for potential exit points.

What do the circles on the chart represent?

The circles represent the dynamic ATR-based stop-loss levels. If the price closes against these levels, it indicates a stop-loss hit or a trend exhaustion.
