The RSI Two-Cross indicator is an oscillator-based tool designed to identify market direction and potential momentum shifts by tracking the interactions between two Relative Strength Index (RSI) lines of different periods.

Usage

The RSI Two-Cross can be used to identify trend changes based on the relationship between a fast RSI (default 14) and a slow RSI (default 50). When the fast RSI crosses above the slow RSI, it typically suggests increasing bullish momentum, while a cross below suggests increasing bearish momentum.

Users can look for the following signals:

  • Bullish Cross: When the RSI 1 length crosses above the RSI 2 length, the background and bar colors highlight the shift, indicating a potential upward move.
  • Bearish Cross: When the RSI 1 length crosses below the RSI 2 length, the background and bar colors highlight the shift, indicating a potential downward move.
  • Overbought/Oversold: Traditional RSI levels (70 and 30) are included to help identify when the asset might be overextended in either direction.

Details

The indicator calculates two separate RSI values based on user-defined lengths and sources. By comparing a short-term RSI to a long-term RSI, the tool filters out some of the "noise" found in a single-line RSI. This "double-cross" method acts similarly to a moving average crossover but is applied to an oscillator, providing a perspective on both momentum and trend direction relative to the 50-midline.

Settings

  • RSI 1 Length: Sets the period for the faster RSI line (default is 14).
  • RSI 2 Length: Sets the period for the slower RSI line (default is 50).
  • Over Sold: Defines the lower threshold level (default is 30).
  • Over Bought: Defines the upper threshold level (default is 70).
  • Source: Determines the price input used for the RSI calculations (default is close).

FAQ

How do I interpret the background highlights?

The background highlights occur at the specific moment a crossover or crossunder happens between the two RSI lines, signaling a change in momentum.

Can I change the sensitivity of the signals?

Yes, by adjusting the RSI 1 and RSI 2 lengths in the settings, you can make the indicator more reactive (shorter lengths) or more smoothed (longer lengths).
