The EMA 9 & 15 Strategy + Angle + Breakout Filter tool provides a comprehensive trend-following system that utilizes exponential moving averages, slope angle validation, and price action filters to identify high-probability trade entries.

Usage

The indicator is designed to identify pullbacks within an established trend. A bullish trend is identified when the 9-period EMA crosses above the 15-period EMA, while a bearish trend is identified when the 9-period EMA crosses below the 15-period EMA.

Signals are generated based on the following criteria:

  • Trend Alignment: The fast EMA must be above (for buy) or below (for sell) the slow EMA.
  • Mean Reversion: Price must touch or cross the 9-period EMA (the "Signal" line) to initiate a setup.
  • Angle Validation: Both EMAs must maintain a user-defined minimum slope angle. This ensures the market is trending with sufficient momentum and prevents signals in flat or choppy markets.
  • Breakout Filter: If enabled, subsequent signals in the same trend direction require price to break the high (for buy) or low (for sell) of the previous signal candle, filtering out low-momentum entries.

Details

The script calculates the geometric angle of the EMAs by comparing current values to a previous point in time. Because price scales vary significantly between asset classes (e.g., BTCUSD vs. EURUSD), an "Angle Scaling Multiplier" is included to normalize the slope calculation.

The strategy also includes a built-in session filter. This allows traders to restrict signal generation to specific hours, such as the New York or London open, where volatility and trend persistence are typically higher.

Settings

EMA Settings

  • Length EMA 1 (Signal): Sets the period for the fast EMA used for entry touches.
  • Length EMA 2 (Trend): Sets the period for the slow EMA used to determine trend direction.
  • Source: The price data used for EMA calculations (default is Close).
  • Offset: Shifts the EMAs forward or backward on the chart.

Strategy Settings

  • Signal Frequency: Choose between "Every Touch" (multiple signals per trend) or "First Touch Only" (one signal per EMA crossover).
  • Wait for Breakout?: Enables a filter requiring price to exceed the previous signal's candle extreme before a new signal can trigger.

Angle Settings

  • Minimum Angle (Degrees): The required slope for both EMAs to validate a trend.
  • Angle Scaling Multiplier: A multiplier to adjust the angle calculation based on the specific asset's price scale.
  • Angle Lookback Bars: The number of bars back used to calculate the EMA slope.

Time Settings

  • Filter by Time?: Toggles the trading session restriction.
  • Trading Session: Defines the active window for signals (HHMM-HHMM).
  • Timezone: Sets the timezone for the session filter.

FAQ

How do I access EMA 9 & 15 Strategy + Angle + Breakout Filter?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Why are no signals appearing on my chart?

Check the "Minimum Angle" and "Angle Scaling Multiplier" settings. If the multiplier is too low or the required angle is too high, the script may filter out all price action. Also, ensure the "Time Settings" align with your current chart time.

How do I adjust the indicator for different assets?

The "Angle Scaling Multiplier" is the primary tool for this. For highly volatile assets like Crypto, use a lower multiplier. For assets with smaller price movements like Forex, use a higher multiplier to make the EMA slope measurable.
