Smart Money Trap Signal
Jun 29, 2025

The Smart Money Trap Signal indicator is a precision-based trading tool designed to identify areas where institutional traders are likely to trap retail participants through false breakouts and liquidity grabs near key structural highs and lows.
Usage
The Smart Money Trap Signal is primarily used to identify high-probability reversal points by detecting liquidity sweeps. Traders can use the indicator to spot:
- Smart Money Long (SMT↑): Occurs when the price sweeps a recent swing low and reverses upward, trapping sellers before an impulsive move higher.
- Smart Money Short (SMT↓): Triggered when the price sweeps a recent swing high and reverses downward, trapping buyers before a sharp decline.
For the best results, it is recommended to apply this tool on higher timeframes (1H, 4H, Daily) to filter out market noise. The signals are most effective when they align with established supply and demand zones or higher-timeframe order blocks. Traders can also utilize the volume filter to ensure that the reversal is backed by significant institutional activity.
Details
The script functions by tracking market structure through pivot points defined by the "Structure Depth" setting. It identifies a "Break of Structure" (BoS) when price closes beyond a previous pivot. When a BoS occurs, the script can automatically plot Order Blocks (OB), which represent areas of potential institutional interest.
The "Trap" logic specifically looks for instances where the price breaches these key levels but fails to sustain the breakout, followed by a price action reversal (such as an engulfing candle). This implementation helps filter out weak signals and focuses on areas where liquidity has been harvested to fuel a move in the opposite direction.
Settings
- Structure Depth: Sets the number of bars used to identify pivot highs and lows for market structure detection.
- Draw Order Blocks: When enabled, the script highlights bullish and bearish order blocks on the chart following a break of structure.
- Show Buy/Sell Signals: Toggles the visibility of the on-chart "Buy" and "Sell" labels when a trap condition is met.
FAQ
How do I interpret the SMT signals? A "Buy" signal indicates a bullish liquidity sweep of a previous low, while a "Sell" signal indicates a bearish liquidity sweep of a previous high. These are typically used as entry points for reversals.
What timeframes are best for this indicator? While it works on all timeframes, higher timeframes like the 1H, 4H, and Daily provide more reliable structural levels and cleaner signals.
