SWING TRADE SIGNALS
May 19, 2020

The SWING TRADE SIGNALS indicator provides automated entry and exit signals for swing traders by analyzing the intersection of short-term Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) and long-term Simple Moving Averages (SMA) alongside RSI momentum extremes.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify market entries and potential reversal points.
- Entry Signals: "B" (Buy) labels are generated when the short-term EMA crosses above the long-term SMA while price action remains above the SMA. "S" (Sell) labels appear when the EMA crosses below the SMA during a bearish candle. Traders typically look to enter a position once the high or low of the signal candle is broken.
- Reversal Indicators: Blue triangles (upward for bullish, downward for bearish) indicate that the RSI has exited an overbought or oversold zone. These serve as warnings for potential trend exhaustion or opportunities to scale out of existing positions.
- Trend Filtering: The central SMA line changes color to reflect market conditions. Green indicates a bullish environment, red indicates a bearish environment, and yellow highlights neutral zones or extreme RSI levels where caution is advised.
Details
The script is constructed using a combination of trend-following and mean-reversion logic. It utilizes a 50-period SMA as a primary trend filter and a 5-period EMA for signal timing. By requiring specific price action conditions (such as the candle high being above the SMA for a Buy signal), it attempts to filter out false breakouts.
The momentum component uses a standard 14-period RSI. Unlike traditional oscillators that mark signals when entering extreme zones, this script identifies signals when price exits those zones (crossing back under 80 or over 20). This implementation aims to capture the start of a corrective move rather than just identifying that a market is overextended. The tool is optimized for higher timeframes, specifically the 1-hour chart and above, to provide more reliable swing trading data.
Settings
- EMA Length: Sets the lookback period for the short-term Exponential Moving Average used for crossover signals.
- SMA Length: Sets the lookback period for the long-term Simple Moving Average used for trend filtering.
- Overbought limit of RSI: The threshold level (default 80) used to trigger bearish reversal triangles.
- Oversold limit of RSI: The threshold level (default 20) used to trigger bullish reversal triangles.
FAQ
How do I get access to the SWING TRADE SIGNALS indicator? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
Which timeframes are most effective for this tool? While the script can be applied to any chart, it is best suited for swing trading on the 1-hour, 4-hour, and Daily timeframes to reduce market noise.
