Price Action BasedSignalsOscillators

The L1 Stochastic J Price Action Oscillator indicator is a specialized technical analysis tool designed to enhance the traditional KDJ oscillator by integrating price action algorithms to reduce noise and mitigate saturation issues.

Usage

The indicator consists of two primary lines—a fast Stochastic Line (green) and a smoothed Slow Line (red)—which oscillate between 0 and 100. Traders can interpret the tool through the following signals:

  • Bullish Crossovers: When the green line crosses above the red line, a bullish momentum shift is indicated. This is visually reinforced by a green fill between the lines.
  • Buy Signals: Background highlights appear when the Stochastic J-value (derived from the K and D components) indicates an oversold condition reaching specific thresholds.
  • Long Strength Indicator: Special yellow markers and distinct candle coloring appear when a bullish cross occurs while the oscillator is at low levels (below 30), signifying a high-probability reversal or trend initiation.
  • Bearish Crossovers: When the red line resides above the green line, the fill turns red, indicating bearish pressure or a cooling-off period.

Details

This tool improves upon the classic KDJ framework by combining it with a Price Action algorithm. Traditional Stochastic oscillators often face "saturation," where the indicator remains pinned at 0 or 100 during strong trends, losing its predictive utility.

To address this, the L1 Stochastic J Price Action Oscillator uses a "Typical Price" calculation—averaging the high, low, and close—relative to its recent 5-period range. This price action component is then smoothed to create a more responsive oscillator that maintains its volatility even during extended trends, providing clearer entry signals when the internal J-value reaches extreme negative values.

Settings

Main Settings

  • RSV Lookback Period: Defines the number of bars used to calculate the Raw Stochastic Value (RSV).
  • K EMA Length: Sets the smoothing period for the Stochastic K line.
  • D EMA Length: Sets the smoothing period for the Stochastic D line, which is a moving average of the K line.

FAQ

How do I use the Long Strength indicator?

The Long Strength indicator is active when you see yellow candle markers appearing on the oscillator lines. This suggests that the bullish momentum is recovering from an oversold state, providing a more robust signal than a standard crossover.

What is the difference between this and a regular KDJ?

Unlike a regular KDJ which can become "flat" at the top or bottom of its scale, this version incorporates price action calculations to ensure the lines continue to move and provide crossover signals even during strong trending markets.
