The RSI with Bollinger Bands and Buy/Sell Signals indicator utilizes a combination of the Relative Strength Index and dynamic volatility bands to identify extreme overbought and oversold conditions in the market.

Usage

The script is designed to help traders locate potential entry and exit points by analyzing the momentum of an asset relative to its historical volatility.

  • Buy Signals: Triggered when the RSI value drops below both the fixed oversold level (30) and the lower Bollinger Band. This suggests an extreme bearish exhaustion that may precede a bullish reversal.
  • Sell Signals: Triggered when the RSI value rises above both the fixed overbought level (70) and the upper Bollinger Band. This indicates an extreme bullish phase that may be reaching a point of exhaustion.
  • Volatility Analysis: The width of the Bollinger Bands on the RSI allows traders to visualize the volatility of price momentum itself, rather than just the price action.

Details

The tool calculates a standard Relative Strength Index (RSI) and applies a smoothing moving average to it. By default, it uses "SMA + Bollinger Bands," which projects standard deviation bands around the RSI's moving average.

Unlike standard RSI analysis which relies solely on static levels (70/30), this implementation requires the RSI to also breach dynamic volatility bands. This multi-layered approach aims to filter out weak signals in trending markets where the RSI might remain above 70 or below 30 for extended periods.

Settings
